How do I clear a service emissions message on a 2005 Mercury Mariner with a 3.0L engine. I have performed the required maintenance procedures at both 30,9000090's and 60,000miles. Still have message.

Warning Messages The warning messages can interrupt the display until cleared or reset by the driver. The warning messages are either single cycle, non-resettable, or repetitive warning messages.
The single cycle warning messages display once whenever the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or a fault occurs in a system, and can be cleared by pressing the RESET button. The single cycle warning messages are:
  • liftgate ajar
  • liftgate glass ajar
  • service emission system
  • low brake fluid
  • service brake system
  • check left headlamp
  • check right headlamp
  • check left turn lamps
  • check right turn lamps
  • check left high beam
  • check right high beam
  • check brake lamps

Is there a reset button to reset ur check engine when it come on so that I can reset it myself

No. Your vehicle is not equipped with any "reset" button to reset the check engine light.

If you want the check engine light to turn off, the proper method is to scan your onboard computer network to check for stored fault codes. Then you perform the diagnostic tests that are indicated by the fault codes. In doing this, you then pinpoint the actual cause of the failure. Once the cause of the failure is determined, the appropriate corrective action must be performed to fix the fault (replace part, repair electrical circuit, reprogram computer, etc.). Only then, should any "reset" be performed. This requires the use of a scan tool that can interface with the onboard computer network and perform all of the functions required to complete the system tests and determine the cause of the fault and also to verify that the fault has been corrected.

Failure to do it this way will only result in repeated system failures (with the light coming right back on), poor fuel economy, and possible severe engine/emission system damage, which will cost a LOT more money to fix. (Which is WHY the manufacturer did not provide you with any "reset" button.)

2008 orange wrench light in the dash. what does that mean ?

It is either a check engine light due to a engine sensor fault or a service due indicator. The service due indicator will light after the required mileage or months have passed since last service, the garage will reset the light after servicing.

Service Engine Soon light reset.

The Service Engine Soon light comes only when the engine computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system, it is not related to the oil change, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.

Failed emmission mot & light says service required and cuts revs

What really happens is your service check indicator light switches itself on due to completion of 10,000 or 5,000 Km (depending on the manufacturer's specs) from your previous oil change or service. The internal clock keeps track of your mileage travelled and let you know when the 10,000 or 5,000 km is up. All that is required is to RESET the service indicator light. On some cars, the resetting of the service light can be done by the car owner which normally involves pressing a button at the front Instrument Panel and so on and so forth. If you have the user manual for your car, I suggest you read it to see if there is anything on resetting the service light.
The bad news is not all vehicle manufacturers have a reset button at the front dashboard, and some requires the use of a Diagnostic Scanner to do this. Ask your mechanic if you are not sure.
The speed is cut down to 60 is due to the fact that if you continue to drive your car after the prescribed mileage without changing the engine oil, there will be 'accelerated' wear and tear to your engine and perhaps even an early engine overhaul. Driving with a long overdue engine oil change is bad but driving it at speed would be worst. I believe you get the drift.
As for your mot test, it is mandatory that no warning light whatsoever should appear at the instrument panel but yours showed up.
