Holding the gas pedal to the floor will cause the PCM to put the fuel injection system into clear flood mode , cutting the amout of fuel going into the engine . Pumping or pushing on the gas pedal while cranking the engine over does nothing but allow more air into the engine , it's not giving it more gas . The computer has a set program it follows at start up . It's not like a carburetor ! Fuel pressure regulator .
It could be a faulty cooling system thermostat. If it didnt close the the engine would run too cool and the coolant temp sensor would cause the car to run a rich mixture causing rough running and poor fuel economy.
there are many things that cause this, so it is best to have it scanned if light is on. but it may be a bad coolant tempurature sensor the symtoms are --- if it is bad it will run to rich, run rough at idle, and produce black smoke. engine may stall out. a maf sensor may cause this also. just get car scanned to find problem code. if it is white smoke check for oil in anti-freeze, if so it may be a blown head gasket. but if that is bad it will over heat. have a good day!!
Your Jimmy is running rich, air fuel ratio is not correct. Start with cleaning your MAF sensor, a dirty MAF sensor will cause your engine to run rich or lean, other causes would be a faulty fuel pressure regulator. Start with the simple and to common and try cleaning your MAF sensor, you can pick up a can of MAF sensor cleaner at most auto parts store like Auto Zone or Part Source.
Also make sure your engine is running at the proper operation temperature 190", cold running engine will cause the ECM to run your engine rich. Causing the back soot and fouling up your spark plugs and intake ports with carbon.
The ECM was programed to recognize the 4.3 vortec to run at 190" and anything cooler will cause it to run rich and poor on economy.
