Head gasket on the 1996 4 cyl toyota camry

Is it difficult to change the head gasket on the 1996 2200 4 cyl toyota camry. One cylinder is full of radiator fluid. I only have concerns about the overhead cam

  • tonissoo Jul 17, 2009

I was going to take the head off and possibly have it machined and replace the head gasket myself at home. I have done this for falcons but the overhead cam worries me. Not sure if the are cam chains or other parts that need special alignent when replaced.

Changed cyl head, on 1996 2.2 toyota camry, cant seem to figure out cam timing

there is a hole in the camshaft gear turn the gear until it lines up with a mark in the cylinder head at the top. then line the crankshaft gear mark up with the mark on the block. sometimes the best way to see the camshaft timing mark is with a mirror.

#4 cylinder on my 2.2L camry has no compression.

The head gasket might be bad around that cylinder, or the piston rings are worn and not holding the compression.

95 camry won`t start

Have the head gasket torqued to 60psi each bolt? if so, either the spark plug grooves got a crack, or the head is bent due to a past overheat... or overheats. If so, send the head to a machine shop and have it leveled out, and replace all gaskets replaced when putting back on. That includes, manifold, header, and head gaskets, as well as the oil seals and O-rings. Hope this will help you.
