Steps to Fix: 1. Open sunglass holder 2. Remove screw holding console to ceiling 3. Grip and pull down on the front (windshield-end) of the console. It will take a bit of pressure for the clips to release. 4. Unplug electrical harnesses 5. Ensure the you still have 2 metal clips attached. If not, the missing one will be laying in/next to the clip-hole 6. Remove the 3 Torx screws holding the display/board 7. Unclip the plasic cover from the board. Be careful. They break easily 8. Locate the '510' resistors and look for disconnection. Mine was very easy to see. 9. Press down resistor and solder broken end. I chose to solder both ends of both 510s to make sure I won't be back in there. 10. Reassemble. It may be worth testing before you snap the clips back into place. Overall its a VERY easy fix that can be done by just about anyone. 20 minutes & $.10 of solder is better than the $900 that Toyota wants.
Under dash on passenger side is Blower Motor Resistor "wire harness plug" which is shorting. it's loose or was previously arcing and burnt up a little from heat. You can reshape the female pins to make the needle pins insert more tight. Or you should replace the Blower Motor Resistor harness if it's too far gone. ( it clips apart, usually a white plug just underneath glove box location. Sometimes is damaged by passengers feet. Your speed 1 thru 3 is resisted. Fan speed # 4 is max voltage and does not use the Resistor. I assume the resistor is shot ( located inside the clip coming from blower motor) or else there is a short on 1 of the wires female to male pins.
You sometimes have to put something between the cage and the motor and tap on the shaft. Often times the cage breaks apart. Soaking the shaft with WD40 or other product may help break it loose.
1. First of all, tap the blower motor gently to see if it starts it. If it does, the brushes or the armature in the motor are worn- replace the motor. 2. If that doesn't help wiggle the connector on the motor and the blower motor resistor. There may be burned or loose connections. 3. If you have power on fuse 7 with the key on, then check for power at the blower motor on the blue white wire. If no power on it you have a break in the wire between the fuse and the blower. 4. Next, check for power on the blue black wire. If there is power there that proves there is continuity through the motor(that's good), if not, replace the motor. 5. The blue black wire then goes to the blower resistor. this resistor gives the different blower speeds. inside the resistor there is a thermal fuse. It isn't replaceable, only the resistor as an assembly. If the thermal fuse blows it may indicate that the blower motor is beginning to wear out and draw too many amps. And then you may need to replace both the blower and the resistor. Check with an ohmmeter across the thermal fuse. If it is open circuit, replace the resistor and the blower. If you don't replace the blower it may blow the new resistor again. 6. If it all checks out to this point, ground the blue/red wire at the resistor. If the blower comes on the problem then becomes the blower switch or a break in the wire to the switch.
Whew.. Hope this helps solve the problem, my fingers are sore..Ha.
Underneath the dash near the passengers feet, right next to the blower motor. It is held by two screws or is clipped in with plastic clips. Probably screws though and has a wire harness attached to it. Very easy to replace, just might have to lay on your back on the passenger side floor to visually see it and remove the resistor pack.
The blower motor resistor card is located under the glove box. You have to take the bottom panel from underneath the glove box out(be careful not to break the wire clip that holds the wires in place on that panel). Once you take the panel loose look in the back. You will see the blower motor. Behind the blower motor is the card. You will need a 9/32 for the panel and a 7/32 for the card. It is only 4 screws total to remove and 2 wire harness clips. It is about a 15 minute job.!!
There was a recall a while back ago for this problem. Check with your local dealer and see if the recall is still active. The problem is the circuit board on the wiper motor assemble where the wire harness connects. The solder the plastic clip on the board breaks and will cause this problem and at worst the wipers don't work at all. If you good with soldering, it's a simple fix by just re-soldering the wire harness clip back on and if you like you can buy the replacement circuit board at Auto Zone. The will have the step by step instructions for you to get the job done, a light tap will once and a while fix the problem but you may loose the whole function of the wipers. Good luck.
Under hood up behind strut tower on firewall on passenger side. You'll see a connector attached to a 1-1/2"x 3" rectangular piece that is inserted inside firewall. Pull it to one side then pull out. You may have to play with it a bit, but it will come. Clips in behind it. If you buy the new one first, you'll see the clips that are on other side of firewall in hole.
replace your blower motor resistor its about 20 bucks and i could only find one at the dealer i had the same problem 4 months ago if that doesnt work your next option is the blower motor but im 90% sure its the resistor 04 dodges have alot of problems with that resistor burning out it is located on the passenger side beside the blower motor two bolts holding it in it will be a rectangle shaped piece of plastic just un clip it and clip the new 1 in
