We have a toyota prado 2002 we imported to southern africa from Japan. During shipment, the engine control unit (ECU) was stolen. We purchased a used ECU but it cannot communicate with the master key and...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You want to make sure the new computer is already reprogrammed for your car before you get it. You need to find out what computer number you had for your vehicle. You should be able to use the vin number to find out what is was. On most vehicles, you have to have it programmed first before it will work correctly in your vehicle. You can try calling a local dealership and asking them. You can also look ECU up on Google and call one of the companies that only deal with ECU's. They will be able to determine what computer you need and what needs done. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.

PROM/cALPAK INSERT DONT MATCH ON ECM 90 CADILLAC SEVILLE

if the prongs don't match;yes. you get the gm numbers off of the ecm, and let them interchange it. then ask to see a picture on the computer to see if it's the same. sometimes they do get boxed wrong.

Shifting hard

You probably have a DTC code of P-2716.

Toyota knows about this issue, and a new engine Control Module (ECM) has been developed to rectify this condition. If your car is under 96 months old, and has less than 80,000 miles, the ECM will be replaced FREE by your Toyota dealer. The replacement ECM corrects the shifting issue.
Mention Tech Service Bulletin "TC015-07" when you take it in for service. If you are beyond the time and mileage as listed above, I can give you the part number for the ECU, if you want to purchase one.
