You must get transmission service done. it will replace the pilot bush in your transmission your car have a 5 speed tiptronic transmission it's need to get transmission service done at every 65000km otherwise you will get problem. seems to be leaking from pilot bush.
when was the car last serviced? if recently serviced what service did the garage do? servicing the car at 20,000 km involves changing spark plugs/ clean or change air filter, fuel filter/ engine oil filter in some case it alson involves cleaning the throttle body and cleaning injectors.depends on your climate and driving condition, your car might be having a faulty airflow meter or faulty idle speed control sensor, have those two checked or cleaned then if problem still the same have your car checked by a code reader to pinpoint the problem.
yes it is safe to take it off. just put some sealant on it or replace the gasket and put it back . this happened to me on 1999 clk 430 . take the belt off to make it easy on your self
Its more involved than you think. You need to look at the passenger side of the engine. There is a support bracket under the crank pulley or just inside of that, that needs to come down or removed to get the pan out.
