I’m just going to assume that it’s a manual transmission.
First check your gear selector cables on the selector on top of the gearbox. One of the cables may have come loose. If the cables are on securely then follow the cable back a bit towards the firewall but still on the gearbox. Check that the cables are being held tight in their supports. If all is okay then check the cables by the gear lever. Check they aren’t damaged, aren’t snapped and that they are attached securely. Still if no problem can be found then it’s possible something’s gone wrong inside the gearbox itself.

For automatic transmissions, first thing to check is ATF level. If that’s all good then I would recommend checking for any DTCs or trouble codes through onboard diagnostics as it could be a bad inhibitor switch or failing valve body etc

you have to take off the speedometer cable/wiring harness from the top of the trans and fill it from there....one 10mm bolt...very awkward spot...it might be snug, so just take a flat head screwdriver from underneath to tap it loose...

get car scanned-cud be a stuck shift solenoid caused by bad or low fluid--also older trans have worn parts like clutches or a # of other things-may just need an ajust on the line pressure or throttle cable
