One possibility is because not enough Freon. My Freon pressure was very low so I added to the proper level. I am able to bypass the big fuse with a paper clip and the compressor clutch engages just fine and the AC works great. But as soon as I remove the paper clip and put the big fuse back in the clutch disengages. I tried replacing the big fuse and it doesn't help the problem. Small AC fuse is fine. My dash AC button lights up when pushed. Does the computer need to be re-set now that the Freon is back up to the proper level?
I need year--make--model?
You removed the fuse and used paper clip in the fuse socket? I'm just trying to understand what you did with paper clip?
Testimonial: "2000 Chevy Silverado. yes, the compressor clutch was not engaging. I read that in order to properly check the freon pressure it needed to be engaged. The 4 prong relay can be bypassed with a paper clip to make the compressor clutch engage. if I put the relay back in, the compressor clutch disengages."
I'm thinking that the compressor stopped engaging because the freon was low. How do I let the computer know that the freon is now at a proper level? so that it engages again.
Did you check voltage on control side of relay? Fuse protected. Can you check for hvac trouble codes, if there are any?
I'm not a hvac expert, I found this.
