Mary, you or some one will have to try and turn engine over manually, with a wrench or socket/power bar, on the crank shaft pulley center bolt and try to turn engine over. If engine can not be rotated, it is seized.
If engine seized you will have a decision to make, is vehicle in good enough condition to have another engine put in. Get estimates from at least # different sources.

Testimonial: "if it does crank over then the engine is still good? it has 148k miles on it and its an 05 i only paid 3000 for it but idk if its worth putting another motor in it"

Mary, if you do get it to turn and it does not turn from key,or start with a boost, the starter may be faulty. There will be engine trouble codes that can be read with a scan tool to determine what else is wrong with the engine. I am thinking if you were to have to replace engine, even with a used engine price would be around $2000.00 or more.

Car cut off while driving

Hi,
Bad news....if you ran low on oil, the car likely sustained engine damage and will need major engine repair/replacement.

A mechanic can determine the exact issue.

Motor sounds like a bunch of Indians trying to get out.

sounds to me like you could have damaged the oil pump, running low on oil can cause numerous things to fail.. possibly spun the rod bearings and they are beating on the crank. I wouldn't start it, but if the noise is in the bottom I would drop the oil pan.

2002 chevy Tahoe. Was driving fine then gauges started flickering and low oil pressure light came on and lights dimmed. Vehicle shut down. Checked oil and was very low. Added oil and tried to start, just...

It's possible but unlikely. Still sounds like your battery is shot, and if so, jumping it may not work. First I would take it out and get it tested. If OK, your next step would be to check error codes (DTCs) with a code reader to see what's going on.

Won't start after stopping

sounds like the thermostate is no good and you probably overheated the car hope you didnt ride to long while overheating ---fill all fluids to normal and try to turn the car over when the engine is cold to see if it starts. if it runs and sounds fine dont let it get to hot watch gage let it go to 180 - 200 if it climbs higher shut car off and have a mechanic check it out or replace thermostate cheapest way out. if car does not run right or makes noise as soon as it starts u have added problems. u didnt mention if there was antifreeze leaking any where

98 altima oil light on and off oil level fine car restarted and

If oil pressure is LOW this vehicle has a safety feature that will prevent vehicle from starting.(check oil level before you start) Now what I wan't you to do is to have the oil pressure switch checked or changed. This may be the reason why this vehicle is not starting or it can also be that the actual oil pressure is low. To check the oil pressure of the vehicle you will need an oil pressure guage. Remove the oil pressure switch and connect guage to oil pressure hole and check oil pressure while cranking vehicle. Some pressure testers can be connected to oil filter housing either is fine. If this vehicle has low oil pressure the reasons for that are bad oil pump, clogged oil pump pick up(from lack of oil change/poor mantainence) or bad connecting rod and main bearings but this usually have a warning from before (the engine will sound loud by knocking /clicking-tapping noise) It this was happening you may need to rebuild this engine or replace it. Good luck and Thanks for using FIX YA
