Hi,there is a float sensor in the fuel tank if its stuck with the float at the bottom of the tank the light will stay on,so to find out if the sender is falty just look at the fuel tank for two connectors undo the two wires and join them together the turn ignision on and see if the gage now runs up to full,if it gose to full then replace the sender in the tank.
hope was some help.
Your ECU could be fouling up, Could have a short or ground, gas sending unit could be malfunctioning, Autozone can put a ECU checker on your system and it should indicate possible causes
Wont take gas and the gas gauge stays full? This question really doesn't make sense. But if you cant put anymore gas in the car and the gauge says full then you have a full tank of gas. If the gauge always says full even when the gas tank is not full then the sender unit is failing or the gauge itself.
It would be nice to know why the service engine light came on and is still on. An auto mechanic can read the code for you, or a dealer, or some parts stores will sell a device to read the code that caused the light to come on.
Yes, I believe the Sending Unit is probably bad. I presume the guage works, it is just that the light stays on. The light is getting an electical connection because the ECU thinks that gas is low. It is not getting the signal from the Sending Unit. I hope this assists you, if you need further assistance p[lacvse come back and we will continue as needed.
