Removing the upper intake manifold on a 1998 vw new bettle 2.0 litter engine

I don't know if the picture will help? In my database there was no text for the procedure. With the gasket for manifold, looks like 5 bolts. Depending on whether or not you take throttle body off with manifold, 4 bolts hold throttle body. Of course there is going to be lines you need to take loose, vacuum lines or whatever. They totally redid my automotive database. I pay more and get less info, sounds about right.

I have a 1997 vw jetta glx vr6 2.8 v6 and car was over heating so we found out water pump was busted so we fixed it and it's still over heats so we bought a new thermostat to put in and problem is we...

Locate the thermostat intake tube by following the radiator hose from the radiator to the point where it connects to the VR6's intake. Remove the intake tube bolts with a 10 millimeter wrench. Lift the intake tube of of the manifold and push it to the side to expose the thermostat.

  • 2 Pull the old thermostat out of the intake manifold and replace it with a new one. The thermostat sits on a lip that is below the radiator fluid level. There will be an arrow indicator showing which end of the thermostat must stick out of the manifold.
  • 3 Remove the old thermostat gasket and replace it with a new one. The old gasket can be removed with our fingers but in some cases a scraper may be needed to free the gasket from the surface of the intake.
  • 4 Bolt the thermostat intake tube back onto the manifold of the Volkswagen.

Oil in water resovour vw 2002 passat

This is probably a head gasket problem and not an oil cooler problem.

The oil cooler is fairly easy to test.

Remove the cooler from the engine but do not disconnect cooling lines and then pressurize the cooling system. You can use a radiator test tool to put pressure on the cooling system and look for leaks. If it leaks, replace it.

You may also be able to bypass the oil cooler altogether if it leaks.

The head gasket is another story.

Get a 1/4" pipe to spark plug fitting and put a male air coupling fitting in it.

Then you can charge the cylinders with air from your compressor.

Make sure each cylinder that you test is at top dead center so that the valves are closed.

If air bubbles into your coolant, you found your problem.

If air leaks out your intake you have a bad intake valve

If air leaks out your exhaust you have a bad exhaust valve etc.

If you find this useful, please take the time to rate it.

    Manifold gaskets

If you are talking about 3.4L engine there are only two manifold gaskets. But there are Four Intake gaskets two for the upper intake and two for the lower intake.
