I have 98 durango one caliper bolt on front passenger side came out I put new one in and now the brake seems to be locking up

YOU NEED REMOVE A LITTLE BRAKE FLUID FROM MASTER CYLINDER.THEN YOU RAISE VECHICLE SAFELY.SUPPORT IT WITH JACK STAND.MAKE SURE VECHICLE IS ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND.REMOVE TIRE OR WHEEL.THEN YOU NEED A LARGE C - CLAMP.PLACE C - CLAMP OVER BRAKE CALIPER AND BRAKE SHOE BACKING.TIGHTEN C - CLAMP JUST ENOUGH PUSH CALIPER PISTON BACK IN CYLINDER BORE TO REMOVE CALIPERS FROM ROTORS.TO REMOVE BRAKE CALIPER YOU NEED 2 OPEN AND BOX END WRENCHES ONE TO HOLD CALIPER SLIDE PINS AND THE OTHER WRENCH FOR LOOSEN CALIPER BOLTS.THEN YOU REMOVE CALIPER AND REPLACE FRONT BRAKE SHOES.IF YOU NEED TO REMOVE BRAKE ROTORS JUST REMOVE THE BRAKE CALIPER CARRIER SUPPORT BOLTS THE REMOVE THE BRAKE CALIPER CARRIER SUPPORT THEN REMOVE ROTOR.YOU NEED TO REPLACE BOLTS WITH NEWS AND USE LOCK TIGHT.THEN YOU PUT IN NEW BRAKE PADS IN CALIPER PUT CALIPER BACK ON SUPPORT CARRIER.REPLACE WITH NEW BOLTS USE LOCK TIGHT THEN TORQUE BOLTS TO 26 FT LBS.MAKE SURE MASTER CYLINDER COVER IN PLACE.WHEN YOU FINISH REPLACING BOTH FRONT BRAKE PADS PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SEAT BRAKE SHOES AGAINST BRAKE ROTORS SO YOU WILL HAVE FIRM BRAKES WHEN YOU APPLY THEM. THEN CHECK YOUR BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN MASTER CYLINDER MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOW. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FIRM BRAKES BEFORE DRIVING.IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS CHANGING FRONT BRAKE PADS YOU CAN GO TO ANY AUTO PARTS STORE AND BUY A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL.

1. Brake Cleaner

Steps:
Step 1 Park your vehicle on a solid level surface. Set the parking brake and chock the rear wheels.
o Tip: Safety Tip:Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or safety shoes.

Step 2 Remove the front wheel hub caps if applicable. Using a tire iron, break loose the front wheel lug nuts but do not remove.
o Tip: Lug nuts fasten the wheel to the hub and may be on very tight. To gain more leverage, use a breaker bar to loosen the nuts.

Step 3 Using a floor jack, lift up the front of your vehicle.
o Tip: Using an aftermarket floor jack, instead of the original equipment (OE) jack, can make the job easier and safer. Verify the condition of the floor jack before use.

Step 4 Secure the vehicle with jack stands on both sides for safety before starting any work. The pinch welds or the frame rails are the two best locations. Do not rely on the jack to hold the vehicle up while working.
o Tip: Try to find a flat, level, and strong surface to put the jack stands.

Step 5 Remove the front wheel lug nuts. Remove the front wheels and set them aside.

Step 6 Inspect the brake caliper for any signs of binding. Look for rust and uneven brake pad wear.

Step 7 Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts (sliding bolts).

Step 8 Support the caliper up and away from the working area. Make sure you do not kink or pinch any brake lines.
o Tip: Use a bungee cord to secure the brake caliper out of the way and hang it on the suspension spring.

Step 9 Clean the sliding bolts and lubricate them.

Step 10 Install the new caliper over the brake pads and rotor. Attach the caliper to the mounting bracket with the sliding bolts. Tighten the caliper sliding bolts to manufacturer’s specifications.

Step 11 Disconnect the brake line from the old caliper. Attach the brake line to the new caliper using new copper washers. Tighten the banjo bolt.

Step 12 Repeat for the other side. Bleed the front brakes.

Step 13 Reinstall the front wheels. Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer specifications in a star pattern.

Step 14 Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground.

Step 15 Verify that you have a solid brake pedal. Road test the vehicle to verify brake caliper repair.

you could have a brake hose that has a piece of rubber making a flapper valve that causes brakes to stay on.or the proportioning valve has gone bad on you. if the brakes were notmush before you changed the hydralic stuff then perhaps bleeding was done incorrectly. just open one bleeder at a time and let it drip a few minutes then go to the next. make sure mast. cyl. doesnt go dry

You will have to remove each front wheel. I recommend doing one side at a time so you can use the other side as a guide if you need a model for reassembly.

There will be two threaded caliper bolts that hold the caliper on. Remove those, and carefully pry/lift the caliper off its bracket. This is good time to inspect your rotors, and if they are really pitted or rusted on the surface where the pads contact them, have them turned or replace if economical to do so.

Before installing the new pads, you will need a good old C clamp to reseat the caliper piston back inside the caliper.

Its good to also clean up those caliper guide pins and apply a small amount of grease to keep them working right.

Then, insert new pads onto caliper and reinstall assembly back onto bracket.

NOTE: Be very careful when tightening those caliper bolts as they are very easy to break/strip, and you really do not want to "go there"

Your local parts store should be able to tell you the torque specs fort those bolts, or look it up on the net.

Once one side is done, do the the other one. After that, press the brake pedal several times and be sure you have a good firm pedal before going for the test drive.

not bolts but pins! i would get a manual even then there not fool proof,,,like the "haynes" book of lies???

Very easy!! Loosen brake line from caliper, remove two bolts from caliper remove. put new caliper on install bolts, connect brake line, blead air out. Do drivers side first. Same on passenger side,your done.

YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE PROPORTIONING VALVE!!
DOES IT HAVE ABS BRAKES ON THE FRONT? (MOST DURANGOS ONLY HAVE ABS ON REAR ONLY)

Put new calipers on both sides, my wife has a 2001 durango, 2 years ago i had to put new ones on because of the same problem you are having and it fixed it, acording to everyone i talked to, has had the same problem with calipers on chys. products especialy Dakodas and Durangos with my wifes the right front wheel locked up but when it cooled down it would work again.

All you have to do is take the calipers off crack open the bleeder of the side you are working on leave the old pad in the caliper and press the pad in as far as it will go tighten bleeder clean the rotors with brake clean to get the oily substance off they put on during shipping to keep them from rusting put rotor back in place and put new pads in caliper if they give you grease for the caliper sliders put some on the caliper bolts and sliders the thing the bolts go into on the caliper so they move fairly easy this way your brakes will work better and last longer put caliper back in place tighten caliper bolts snug usually with a ratchet like a good 3/8 ratchet then do the other side fill up the master cylinder with proper brake fluid usually dot3 but should say on master cylinder cap bleed brakes if you did just the front bleed the passenger side first pump pedal a few times dont go all the way to the floor have someone open the bleeder on the right front passenger front while holding pedal down with just a little pressure one foot on pedal one under pedal so it dont go to the floor then do the same for the other side check fluid start vehicle if pedal is good go for a test drive and thats it.

Did you try to thread it back in with caliper out of the way? Sometimes the caliper is just a hair out of it's proper position, and will cause that, which is probably a good thing, so it doesn't get re-assembled incorrectly. If one of the bolts will thread in without caliper on, I'd double check my assembly position, otherwise use good bolt to determine whether threads on spindle are bad, or on bolt that came out. You may need to run a tap through it, or a thread chaser.
