Sound like you need to have the catalytic converter checked. when a catalytic converter gets plugged up it will cause the exhaust pipe to get really hot or red. and show the symptoms you are describing. a good muffler shop should be able to test it. good luck

Try your donut gasket between the manifold and the exhaust pipe.

2000 ram 3500 deisel dies at 2000 rpm won't start

could be fuel elated, there are two fuel pumps, the high pressure pump to feed the injector system and the lift pump to get fuel from tank to the high pressure pump. Check fuel filter also and start there. The fuel pumps are expensive. What have you checked so far and eliminated?

a couple gears might be wearing out and that usually is the cause of the fluctuations. Take it to a transmission specialist such as AAMCO and have them take a look at it. that is the best thing to do.

Fluctuating engine temp a/c sends out cold air intermittently

Here's the thing. The ECU will shut down AC if the engine temperature is too hot. If the coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning (lying to the ECU) telling it that the temperature is hotter than it actually is, the computer will turn the AC OFF.
