When the ABS light is on can I enable the AWD?

Check switch that enable/disables it. If electronically controlled, it may use ABS, Traction control, power steering and gear mode data as it's input to enable/disable AWD. Check for error codes for these systems too. If all is OK, check operation of mechanical part such as AWD transfer box or the whole transmission for wear and tear. Some do have mode switch that driver can select between snow and normal or mud. If present check such item too.

Sounds like who ever did your brakes dint hook up your abs wire harness or broke it

My issue was the rear flow valve, just in front of the rear differential was bad.

You need to go to a repair facility

Have the vehicle scanned for codes

Diagnosed,and Repair the System
Malfunction. (ABS)

The ABS Module could be going bad, do you get a SEL (Service Engine Light) ?

Bring the vehicle into a repair shop ASAP. There are several things that can be wrong such as calipers master cylinder, module,fluid exhaust valves . ABS problems will affect AWD. So in all likelyhood once ABS problem is cleared AWD will be fine.

awd disable is usually a $200 tube type sensor in the rear diff. abs light is usually front hub bearing

definately repair that wire. now keep in mind that that particular wire is called a shielded wire and you need to be clean and careful when you repair it. make sure it is water tight and protected. this wire is for the abs wheel speed sensor and with no reading, the abs is inoperable which will affect the awd. the abs and smart trac work in conjuction with each other to help you remain stable. cheers.

The ABS and the AWD are interconnected, if the sensor cable is damaged then there is no signal for the AWD sytem to operate from.
Also the ABS,,it wont work properly either,,,the repair is not costly, get it fixed.
