I would suggest doing a block test to ensure no head gasket or cracked block issue. You can rent a tester from Autozone or Orielly's. Make sure you buy the fluid to use in the tester. Follow the instructions that come with the tester.

Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.

SOURCE: 1997 Cadillac Deville Overheating

Yes it can be the head gasket, one way to tell,is make sure the engine is cold, like in the morning.Take the rad.cap off,add water until full.Turn over the engine and let run, while looking at the opening(where the cap goes). Is the water coming out like really fast, maybe as much as a fountain? If so,then it is a head,or head gasket. If you would like to bleed system of air I can tell you how.If there is air in the cooling system,it will run hot. With it cold,or cool, not hot or real warm, fill the reservoir with water up to 3/4 full, over the fill mark.Fill the radiator full, and replace radiator cap,and reservoir cap.Make sure the hose from the reservoir to the radiator is in good shape,no holes or crimped anywhere.start the engine with the ac off.At this point the cooling fans should not be on.There not supposed to be on unless you straight wired them. Before the fans come on by themselves,or the vehicle runs hot,and right before not to soon, cut the car off.Go in the house and get on computer for about 30 to 40 minutes, and go back out side and check the water level in the reservoir. Is it down?if so add more water and repeat process until engine runs at normal temp. The fans should come on,and go off on there own, with the ac off.Let me know the out come.

Make sure your radiator is working and you have proper coolant and no leaks. Make sure your fans are kicking on. You might have a bad coolant temperature sensor.

How to bleed cooling system 2000 Mazda mpv es 2.5l 24v. That hasn't. Got a petcock or cap on radiator. After installing new waterpump and thermostat?

So the overflow tank would be pressurized with a radiator cap. This would no doubt be higher than top of radiator and engine .Keep filling it without engine running and heater on hot, then start up, when engine gets hot and thermostat opens, water should leave overflow and you need to top up as required.

Changed out the thermostats and waterpump on my 05 lincoln ls v8 car is still running hot any suggestions

I hope you replace the thermostats with new units and put then in the right way round. (body of the unit in the water in the head). If it is overheating while at lights and you have a viscous fan hub then replace the hub. have a coolant pressure test done to check for leaks . Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracks. Ensure that you fill the radiator to the cap and run until all air is expelled from the coolant system

I bought a88 mazda 323 and it had been sitting for two yrs when i started it after idleing ten or 15 min it runs hot . there are no apperant blown head gasket signs can you help me?

After sitting that long replace thermostat and refill with new coolant. Also make sure waterpump is turning when car is running. A glazed belt or seized waterpump is a possibility.

1988 Cadillac Sedan Deville has no heat. It blows cool air but becomes lukewarm after running quite a while. I have put in a new radiator, new thermostat, whole system has been power flushed and still...

Touch both heater hoses going to the heater core. They should both be hot. If they are, then the problem is probably a broken or binding blend door or bad blend door actuator. If one hose is hot and the other cold, then the heater core is clogged.

What causes a 96 honda accord to run hot if the thermostat is brand new? would kit be the waterpump?

Check for a small leak in your radiator. Mine was leaking on top near the cap. Had a small crack which caused my temp to run hot.

Ive put everything new on my 626 and it still runs hot

the engine may have a leaking head gasket, to eliminate this possibility a reputable auto repair shop will use a device that attaches to the radiator cap it has a blue fluid in it that will change to yellow if any combustion gas is present in the cooling system passages indicating a blown head gasket. Try the alumi seal product sometimes that works.
