How do I fix the odometer and trip counter red numbers on the dash. is there a relay fuse or some code to reset it? I have taken off the battery cable, for a few min, they do not reset.
I checked both panels of fuses.under the hood, and the driver side door. when i hit a bump the numbers glitch out.

This is the reset proceedure for a 2008 Highlander with a key-type ignition:
Turn the key ON, do not start the engine.
Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "TRIP A". If it is on "ODO" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "TRIP A".
Turn the key OFF.
Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it IN. DO not release it.
Turn the key ON, do not start the engine
Observe the Odometer display. You will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, whatever number that was displayed on "TRIP A" will be re-displayed..
Now release the black trip meter reset stick.
This completes the reset procedure, and it will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.
It truly sounds like a loose or faulty/corroded ground wire. Almost 99% of the electrical problems I have experienced with Volvo's are loose wire related. There are a number of ground wires underneath the hood grounding the engine. However my first suspect would be the connections on the alternator and battery.
1. With your car OFF, place your key in the ignition and turn to "On". Do not start the car. 2. Find the odometer button and press until it reads the total odometer setting, (not the Trip A or Trip B setting). 3. Turn the key to OFF. 4. Place your finger back on the odometer button, press and hold. At the same time, turn the key back to "On". 5. Hold the odometer button in until the MAINT REQD light goes out...should take about 8-10 seconds.
page 77 of the 2004 Lexus rx330 handbook... (you will find the answer you are looking for in resetting your maintenance light.) with
the odometer reading visible, (not trip A or trip B..) turn off engine.
While keeping Odo/trip button depressed, turn ignition back on (not
starting the engine) You will see dashes (instead of numbers) on your
odometer disappearing one at a time. it will be replaced by 0's
(zeros).. Release the Odo/trip button and your original mileage will
come up.... And your done..... until the next oil change.
Test the dash first. Put key in hold down trip reset botton. Turn the key to on but don't start. Release the trip botton. Should turn on all dash lights & check for codes in the odometer. If getting codes reply back.

you can reset your cars computer
by taking the positive battery cable off the battery and waiting 2-3
min and then touching the positive cable from the car to the negative
cable which is still attached to the neg post on the battery for about
5 sec and the hooking it back up. that will reset the computer. if the code that was given is a koer code and you havent fix the problem the code will most likely come back but this is a good place to start and at least the code will be gone for awhile.
