You need to take the radio out and write down the serial number. Then call you Audi dealer and provide him with the serial number and the VIN number of the car. Some dealer provide the radio code look up for free; other charge for the service. The code is written on a perforated card inside your operator manual.

My Audi A4 went onto safe mode and I put the wrong code into the radio. It has now gone back into safe mode and will not let me put in the correct code. How do I reset completely?

Wait one hour before attempt to put again the correct code!!! Now the radio is under anti-theft protection. IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have the security anti-theft code for your Audi radio from the car manufacturer, or from an Audi dealer!

The sequence of programming for 1997 Audi A4 radio is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
3. By the #1 key you will set up the first safe code digit.
4. By the #2 key you will set up the second safe code digit.
5. By the #3 key you will set up the third safe code digit.
6. By the #4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

I own a 98 jetta, I just completed some major engine work . But now I can't start it and the radio says safe mode.... whats up?

(STEREO-SAFE MODE ) Look on the (Stereo Booklet) It has a Vehicle stereo code card in the front page. Type the four digit code as it tells you in the instructions. If you don't have the booklet call the dealer and tell them to give you the code it should be free.

My car power stering light comes on and then the wheel is hard to

this system can be tested for codes, I would suggest you have the dealer do this test, all the parts are very expensive so guessing is not a good idea. most probale cause is a wheel motion sensor on the steering column.
