New battery caused 'Battery" warning light to light? alternator?

My car would not start and the 'trac off' and 'ABS' warning lights were on. The problem was a bad battery, it was very old and corroded (my bad). I installed a new battery and the car started fine and THOSE warning lights went off. Now the 'Battery' warning light is on. The local mechanic is trying to tell me it must be the Alternator, which did not appear to have problem before the battery exchange. I live out in the sticks and am stuck with this guy for issues that are beyond me. Any advice would be appreciated.

I also have an ES300 and have replaced the battery. There are a few things you can check first. If your battery was really that corroded you might want to replace the battery terminal connectors with new ones. If they are loose(able to turn them with your hand, even if it requires a lot of force you should not be able to twist them with your hand) it could affect the alternators ability to charge the battery if its not making complete contact with the battery terminals. If you tighten the connectors all the way and can still hand twist them, then its time to replace. If the old terminals are fine you would at least need to clean them thoroughly due to the severity of corrosion from the previous battery. If its not charging the battery at all you might want to check the alternator fuses. Thirdly, a loose alternator belt can also cause the alternator to put out less volts, therefore not supplying enough power to run the necessary accessories causing the battery to be used while the car is running instead of recharging it from the jolt of juice it lost starting the car.. If its loose you can have it adjusted and tightened, if the belt is cracked or worn, have it replaced. Make sure to check that the wiring is all sound and not broken or corroded that connect to the battery. Make sure the ground wire is still grounded. If these things fail to solve the, it might be time for a new alternator. If you have autozones in your area they will run a free alternator check for you. Just go in and ask for one and they'll wheel out the machine to your car. (P.S. If your running any kind of additional electronics like an aftermarket amplifier or any other high drain device you'll have to install a high output alternator to accommodate the extra demand. A new alternator putting out the factory level voltage won't be enough even though it's brand new. Those can be obtained off of eBay.)

I have a '99 dodge grand caravan se, while in park the abs light came on, the battery light came on, and the check engine light has been on,

Looks like you have a few issues there.

1. The battery warning. This is indicative of a weak battery and if your battery is 3 years old or more I would replace it.

2. If you have a weak battery this can trigger other warning lights in the vehicle, typically the ABS warning but sometimes other warning lights as well depending on the electronic features in the car. If you replace the battery this should correct the battery warning and most likely the ABS warning if both of these warnings appeared at the same time.
Normally, once the ABS warning is displayed the anti lock braking system(ABS) will be shut down. Whilst your braking will be normal, if you brake too hard and lock up your wheels on a slippery road there is no ABS assist to prevent the brake lock up which you have when the system is working.

3. If the alternator on the engine is not generating sufficient power and thus not charging the battery at all, or very little, you will likely get a battery warning light. I don't know if your 1999 vehicle has a warning light to indicate a faulty alternator or not.

4. Check Engine Light.
You suggested the CE warning has been showing up for a few days and before the battery and ABS warnings popped up.
The CE warning can be caused by dozens of different engine issues.
The vehicle needs to be scanned with the appropriate scan tool to see what fault codes the onboard computer is generating because if you have a CE warning light there will be fault codes generated 99% of the time.

Once these fault codes have been pulled the mechanic can start to diagnose the cause of the problem or problems. Each engine fault code your car's computer is generating can be caused by different types of problems so it is important that they diagnose the issues correctly. Otherwise your Check Engine light will remain on as long as the causes are not identified and fixed.

I have 2002 BMW x5. The battery light came on, then the brake light, ABS and warning lights all came on at the same time. Car started to stall once I got to 30 mph. Parked the car and restarted...all...

Replace the battery. (And possibly the Alternator). Reset any codes and try again. A week battery will cause al kinds of havoc and will result in just what you describe. BMW's are very sensitive to correct voltage.

Battery light and abs light is on and battery wont stay charged, new battery and altenator is good

This sounds like a bad alternator , maybe it charges at times and other times it does not, check connections to battery and at alternator, also make sure all fuse are good.

Battery and ABS light coming on

There is a part on the engine called the "Alternator", the alternator is what charges up the battery and supplies the power to the cars electrical system when the engine is running, when the voltage output of the Alternator is to low it causes the Battery warning light in the dash display to come on (to alert you of a problem in the charging system), the low voltage from the alternator also is what is causing the ABS warning to come most likely. So at this point you will need some basic testing done to determine the cause of the low voltage, this can be the alternator is defective (most likely reason) or other things like wiring issues to the alternator.

ABS light, VSC light, and battery light all came on at the same time. VSC light is an easy reset, but it appears vehicle is running off battery charge only. I had battery checked, and it is 1-year old...

Your alternator has to produce at least 13.1 volts to recharge the battery. If less is produced then possible causes are alternator, wiring, fuse, drive belt. Your ABS and VSC modules will self protect and shut down when low voltage is detected. Repair the charging problem and the warning lights will be sorted too.

2003 BUICK CENTURY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRAC OFF LIGHT AND ANTI LOCK LIGHT CAME ON ALL AT THE SAME TIME . PUT COMPUTER ON IT AND IT SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE . ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Hello mjmreno,

Was the scan tool you used capable of scanning the ABS system? If not you need to look at the ABS system, if one of the speed sensors goes bad it can cause the problems you discribe.

What do i do when the anti brake like has just come on. and what does it mean when the trac light is on?

ANY TIME ABS LIGHT OR TRAC LIGHT COMING ON THAT MEANS EITHER ONE IS NOT WORKING NOT GETTING NO OR ENOUGH POWER.CHECK ABS FUSE AND RELAYS. IF RELAY AND FUSE OKAY.MAKE SURE YOUR ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE OUT PUT AT BATTERY SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS IF 11.0 VOLTS DUE TO VOLTAGE REGULATOR FAILURE. THAT WILL CAUSE ABS AND TRAC LIGHT TO COME ON.IF ALTERNATOR CHECKS OUT OKAY.TAKE VECHICLE TO GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE TO SCAN THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM.

Electrical power system service required.....ABS warning light, generator warning light, brake failure...car stalled and wont't restart

usually caused by failed generator. Fix the generator and other lights will also extinguish. The car should jump start, but will not stay running without a charged battery. Recommend removing the generator and take to parts store for testing. Would you like instructions for removing generator?

2000 - battery light comes and won't turn over

The "battery light" is an indicator lamp for the alternator that charges the battery.
Was the "good" battery you put in charged?
.
When the key is in the ON position (not running but on), the light should illuminate to show that the warning lamp bulb works, it should go off after starting the engine.
When the vehicle is running, if the the "battery" light is illuminated its a warning that the alternator is not charging the battery. A new alternator is needed here.

If the lamp goes off when running I suspect your battery is faulty.
