P0016 and P0017 check engine pop up after i run for 10 to 15 miles?

Originally i have check engine and p2015 but i already change the part for that and for some reason check engine p0016 and p0017 pop up and I have to retiming the crankshaft 305 degrees and the timing mark of camshaft is in the middle of the hole. I change the 2 camshaft sensor in bank 1 but still check engine pop up again. If you can help me please I really appreciate it. Thank you very much .

Carl Blood Sr. Is exactly right. I have a 07 Isuzu i290 having same problem but carlot I bought truck from is fixing mine tomorrow bcuz I've only had the truck for 5 days. But my problem is they want to put used parts on my truck. But surprise that's not happening, bcuz it bound to happen again. So they have a choice new parts or give me my $700 back PERIOT! Also the girl at car lot told me it has a used battery which I've already had to boost four times so I did tell her today that I need a new battery not a used one because I'm not going to go into work and work 8 hours walk out there to my truck and it doesn't start because they don't want to put a new battery on it. And then she says well you need to realize that the car lot has been closed for a year because of covid I said I know that but if you're going to have a car lot you need to keep your vehicles maintained for the people who buy them because if you think I'm asking for something wait until you sell these other cars that you haven't maintenance maintenance correctly then you're going to have a lot of problems on your hands. So again I'm saying tomorrow to her I want new parts on my truck I don't want used parts from a wrecking yard because it's bound to happen again and I'm not going to pay for a truck that I know I'm going to have to spend another $500 on to fix when those used sensors go out and that's that so the choice is new parts or my 700 bucks and I'll go on my Merry way whichever you have a good night.

The common causes for code P0017 are as follows:

  • A faulty cam or crank sensor
  • The cam or crank circuit is open or shorted
  • The timing belt/chain is out of time
  • The cam or crank tone ring is slipped/broken
  • A problem in the VVT system P0016 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A) P0017 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor) God Bless! Hope this helps you.

DTC P0016: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Intake Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1
DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1

• An actuator that is in the full advance or retard position can cause this DTC to set.
• The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).
• Observing the desired and actual camshaft angle parameters, with a scan tool before a DTC sets, may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

Now do you want to change a sensor an have it not fix the problem .

DTC P0016: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Intake Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1

DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1
A camshaft actuator stuck in the full actuation position may cause the engine to crank but not start.
The camshaft position (CMP) actuator system is an electro-hydraulic operated device used for a variety of engine performance and operational enhancements. These enhancements include lower emission output through exhaust gas dilution of the intake charge in the combustion chamber, a broader engine torque range, and improved fuel economy. The CMP actuator system accomplishes this by changing the angle or timing of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft position. The CMP actuator simply allows earlier or later intake and exhaust valve opening during the four stroke engine cycle. The CMP actuator cannot vary the duration of valve opening, or the valve lift.
During engine OFF, engine idling conditions, and engine shutdown, the camshaft actuator is held in the park position. Internal to the CMP actuator assembly is a return spring and a locking pin. During non-phasing modes of the camshaft, the return spring rotates the camshaft back to the park position, and the locking pin retains the CMP actuator sprocket to the camshaft. The park position for the CMP actuator and camshaft is 8.5 degrees before top dead center (BTDC), which is equal to 17 crankshaft degrees BTDC. The engine control module (ECM) can only command the CMP actuator to retard the valve timing from the park position, or advance the valve timing back to the park position. The total range of valve timing authority is approximately 20 degrees of camshaft rotation, which is equal to 40 degrees of crankshaft rotation.
Problems with this will cause the PCM to disable traction control and Stabilitrac .How many miles on your vehicle ?

155,000 miles This is not a DTC for the crank sensor . This is for variable valve timing .
DTC P0017: Crankshaft Position (CKP) - Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) Correlation Bank 1
The camshaft position (CMP) actuator system enables the engine control module (ECM) to change the timing of the camshafts while the engine is operating. The CMP actuator solenoid signal from the ECM is pulse width modulated (PWM). The ECM controls the CMP actuator solenoid duty cycle by controlling the amount of solenoid ON time. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the advance or the retard of each camshaft. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the oil flow that applies the pressure to advance or retard the camshafts.
Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the CMP actuator solenoid. The ECM controls the solenoid by grounding the control circuit with a solid state device called a driver. The ECM compares the camshaft position or the camshaft angle, to the position of the crankshaft.

Your a little out of your league on this ! Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop !

• Inspect the engine for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed camshaft, camshaft actuator, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, or timing chain can cause this DTC to set.
What do P0016 and P0017 codes mean on a 2010 Equinox?

P0016 is the crankshaft position (CKP) to intake camshaft position correlation; P0017 is the exhaust camshaft position correlation.

P0016 sets when 'The ECM detects 8 of the last 10 cam sensor pulses occur during the incorrect crankshaft position."
P0017 sets when 'The ECM detects 25 out of the last 35 cam revolutions occur with 2 cam sensor pulses outside the CKP window."

Basically, you're getting pulses when they shouldn't happen, from both cam sensors, or the CKP is generating incorrect window info. Since the CKP is the common element, it's probably the culprit.

The cam position sensors are at the back of the head, one on each side corner. The CKP is under the oil filter housing, above the starter. To replace the CKP, you're supposed to remove the intake manifold and starter.

CEL P0016 and P0017, Changed out the camshaft pos sensors in right bank, and reset CEL stayed out for 3 months the same code but Crankshaft sensor came up, changed this out reset light and came backl on!

if you have a lot of miles on this car , it might be time to change the timing belt or at least tighten it up if it still looks good. Stretched belts can also pop these codes as the cam and crank are no longer lined up exactly where they should be to each other.

I HAVE A P0016 PROBLEM ON MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2007 I ALLREADY REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND THE CRAMSHAFT POCITION SENSOR AND I HAVE THE SAME ERROR CODE CAN SOME ONE HELP ME WITH THAT THANX.

This code is not specific to a Cam position sensor failure, sensor failure may set this code. Below is a TSB (technical service bulletin) regarding this code. Keep in mind when replacing cam or crank sensors, they may need recalibration which is done by the dealer. If your vehicle has less than 60k miles, it may be covered by Toyota's warranty. Here is the TSB link below, hopefully this helps: http://www.djmase.com/tsb/Camry2007/eg004t.pdf
