Beyond that, it is basic diagnostics. Check fuel pressure, check for gas and spark at the cylinders. Test the fuel injection circuit.Test the ignition coil. Test sensors for proper operation. A mechanic with a multi-meter can do a ton of diagnostics. I don't get it, does your mechanic only work on new cars?.

Best option is to get a mobile mechanic to do a diagnostic check on your car. Those guys are usually very good and it's worth paying for a diagnostic test rather than buying replacement part after replacement part in the hope of curing a fault.

Diagnostic codes are nothing more than a tool to to lead an experienced tech in the right direction. Just because you're getting a camshaft sensor code does not necessarily mean that, that is the problem. Of course the obvious first step would be to test the camshaft position sensor and you will probably need to take it to a shop to have those tests completed

Only thing I can think of is try unhooking the battery for a minute and see if computer resets itself
