1. You can eliminate the fuel pump as an issue with a few checks.
Take the fuel cap off and listen for the in- tank fuel pump to run and stop when you have someone just turn on the ignition(do not try to start the car). If the fuel pump is running you will hear it run for a few seconds and then the computer will shut it down.
2. IF you do not hear it run check the fuse for the fuel pump and also check the relay that covers the fuel pump. When you locate the relay it should click when you switch the car ignition on and off and then on again.
3. If the fuse and relay are sound you can run a fuel pressure check and see what if any fuel pressure you are getting. If you cannot hear the pump run and you have zero fuel pressure then you have confirmed your pump is bad or there might be a problem with the wiring connections at the pump itself.
4. If you hear the pump running when you test you should still get a fuel pressure check done to ensure that the pump is delivering at least minimum required pressure to the injectors.
5. If the fuel pump and fuel pressure are fine I would be checking power to the spark plugs if not done already.
6. Check engine timing.
7. Run a compression test
8. If the car is not starting the computer will be generating fault codes. If not done already have the car scanned with the appropriate scan tool and see what fault codes the computer has generated because there will probably be something there to help you with your diagnosis.
Lets find out
Hope this helps Mike

If the timing belt is broken or has lost some teeth then you will get no fire. Some models have an inspection port that you can see the belt through. Have someone try to start engine while you watch timing belt. If belt is stationary or moves in jumps then this is your problem.

Hello, I would assume this is your fuel pump inside your tank. I would first however do some basics like a general tuneup. For starters I would replace your spark plugs and wires, rotary cap and button and check your fuses. Run some injector cleaner through your system. You know quick simple cheap things before you get to the fuel pump inside the gas tank which can be kinda expensive. The warm up then dies can be caused by, "blownout or fouled," spark plugs. I hope this gives you a general direction in which to go. A sidenote is that coil packs do not normally run an igntion code and I for one do not like them becuase they are expensive.

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.
