there is a little mark on the crankshaft which you line up with the 'o' mark on the casing ..
remove the cam cover and look at the cam you should see a nob on the cam about 3 th lob and that should be facing just left of the engine ..
if you have a turbo there is two notchs on the injection pump pully ..if turbo there is a 't' mark on the rear of the cover the notch on the pully should mark up with the 't'..
the timing is set..

SOURCE: 6.0 liter diesel slugish on take off

this problem can be related to the EGR, if you let them idle to much they get coked up and get stuck in the open position(not allowing enough fresh air in). also change the fuel filters like every 2-3 oil changes. It's expensive but worth the effort.

Hi I’ve changed my blown engine on my insignia 2011, I’ve finished the job now the clutch is much harder to press and biting point much lower, it’s exactly same clutch and gearbox as before

Clearly something has gone back together differently.

Some clutch centre plates can go in either way around and still work though there is a right and wrong way. Perhaps the release bearing or the lever or fulcrum moved during assembly.
A few well placed spots of grease during assembly helps reduce the effort of operation...

Is it possible the locating dowels for the gearbox to engine fitting are still in the scrap engine? Without the dowels to ensure the gearbox shaft aligns accurately with the centre of the crankshaft, clutch operation and other things can be compromised.
There are usually also dowels in the flywheel to locate the clutch cover/pressure plate and these sometimes become lost...

While nothing to do with your problem, if the engine crankshaft is fitted with a clutch/gearbox pilot or spigot bearing, it should be checked, lubricated or replaced before reassembly as they can cause a great deal of trouble if they fail.
Many manufacturers have deleted the bearing altogether...

Removal of the crankshaft timing sprocket R2 diesel

Hi
Why are you removing this sprocket?
Or, do you mean crankshaft pulley?
If you are looking to removing the timing sprocket be aware that you will need to put the engine at its required timing setting points, YOU MUST USE THE CORRECT TIMING TOOLS and when tnese are fitted remove belt, remove crankshaft sprocket.
Fitting is reverse but there will be a resetting figure for the timing belt.
********Please dont do this job if you either have never dont this job before, do not have the correct tools, or just dont have the experience. Dont let a "friend do it or help you unless they are qualified Technicians.
You will destroy the engine in a few seconds of cranking if you get this wrong!! Be warned.
cheers

If you have what you said then you have a problem as the key in the crankshaft must be a good fit, and if the woodrough key or grove in crankshaft which holds key is even slightly worn dont trying fitting another pully as the crankshaft has to be replaced first as its the key which dose the driving not the bolt
Sorry mate
