How to change the power steering/ac belt - 2001 Chevrolet Tracker

Removing the AC pump and power steering pump from a 1999 Isuzu Trooper 3.5L can be a complex and time-consuming process. It is recommended that this procedure be performed by a qualified mechanic. However, if you would like to attempt it yourself, the following are general steps to follow:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the serpentine belt by using a breaker bar or ratchet on the tensioner pulley to relieve the tension on the belt. Then, slide the belt off the pulleys.
3. Remove the bolts that secure the AC pump and power steering pump to the engine block. The AC pump and power steering pump share some bolts, so be sure to keep track of which bolts belong to which pump.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors and hoses from the AC pump and power steering pump. The electrical connectors may require you to depress a tab or pull up on a locking tab before disconnecting.
5. Remove the bolts that secure the AC pump and power steering pump to their respective mounting brackets.
6. Carefully lift the AC pump and power steering pump out of the engine compartment.
7. If you plan to reinstall the AC pump and power steering pump, transfer any necessary components or brackets from the old pumps to the new pumps.
8. Install the new pumps in reverse order, using the bolts and connectors you removed from the old pumps.
9. Reinstall the serpentine belt, making sure it is properly routed around all the pulleys.
10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
11. Start the engine and check for proper operation of the AC and power steering systems.

have you put a different type of power steering fluid?

in some instance, if they put a different type of fluid, the solution bubbles up and makes a whining noise when you use the car.

Are you sure you have the right belt, the right length and fitted correctly around all pulleys, because you stated the alternator and AC belt broke, the same belt runs the power steering pump!!

Are you sure you have the belt installed correctly? Not hard to make a mistake. Did you get any oil or fluid on the belt? Did you change belt tensioner at same time? Usually a good idea.

loosen the belt tension adjuster jam nut on side and loosen the lockscrew to loosen release tension to the AC COMPRESSOR belt.your vechicle has two tension adjusters one for power steering and tension adjuster for AC COMPRESSOR AND ALTERNATOR.

FOR THE 3.0L ENGINE IF YOU REPLACE AC BELT LOOSEN TOP IDLER PULLEY CENTER BOLT. IF YOU REPLACING ALTERNATOR AND WATER PUMP BELT LOOSEN ALTERNATOR ADJUSTMENT BOLT AND PIVOT BOLT.IF REPLACING POWER STEERING PUMP BELT LOOSEN POWER STEERING PUMP ADJUSTMENT BOLT AND MOUNTING BOLTS.****** FOR THE 2.4L ENGINE TO REMOVE POWER STEERING BELT LOOSEN TOP IDLER PULLEY.FOR ALTERNATOR AND WATER PUMP BELT LOOSEN ALTERNATOR ADJUSTER BOLT, PIVOT AND MOUNTING BOLTS.FOR AC COMPRESSOR LOOSEN LOWER IDLER PULLEY.

Tighten, your need to tighten the power steering belt a lil bit more, not to much to stretch it but just enough to overcome the resistance of the pump

if i remember right those belts are not together cuz your car has two belts on it one that goes from the crank pullel that runs the a/c and alt and then one thats from the crank to the power steering

Sounds like a belt has gone.
Have a look at the front of the motor if you can see pulleys with no belt on them that will confirm it... Any auto parts store should be able to supply a replacement given year and model details.
