How can I adjust idle?

The other night i noticed that my mustang's idle would rev upto red line over 4500 rpms when i stopped and raised the hood i noticed that my exhaust manifolds were glowing red hot in which indicated to me was that my converters were clogged so i had to drive it home the next day i removed the converters it helped with the red hot manifolds but now my idle won't go down this car has an aftermarket cold air induction unit on it it is either the idle stop solenoid or the intake control valve please help me

The idle is completely computer controlled, it is not adjustable.

SOURCE: No Heat in 99 Taurus

Just finished fixing my daughters 1999 taurus heat. It would blow warm only when running down the road. At idle it blew cold. I started with replacing thermostat, and water pump because they are the easier fix. Still did not help. Then I replaced the heater core. A daunting job but not that hard to move the dash slighly out of the way to replace. There is a good write up at tarusclub.com. After that, heat was better but at idle, it would still blow cool sometimes. Researched and found answer. Park car on the steepest hill you can find with front of car up. Start car and take off reservoir cap. Let car warm up and keep rpms about 1500. After a while the fluid will come running out of the car and all over the place but it will bring air bubbles with it. Reduce rpm, add more fluid and repeat about 3 times. It will make a mess but after that, the heater works perfectly. We get heat long before the temp gage indicates any and it never blows cold unless you lower the temp.

SOURCE: 2001 v6 escape rough idle when cold

To update my earlier repair on the 2001 6 cyl Escape: When cold, and when the ignition was turned over but no accelerator pressure given, the rough idle finally returned the P0303 code again when the check engine light came on indicating that it wasn't caused by the plugs or the coil. FYI, I had replaced the intake manifold gaskets during the original repair and just prior to that I had replaced the fuel filter which was very dirty (I cut it open to see).

The repair manual referred to fuel injectors as a possible problem. I have run three tanks of fuel using different injector cleaning products and am very pleased with the results. Cold starts are much smoother and I am unable to coax out the P0303 code or any other code.

My opinion, change the fuel filter, use a fuel injector cleaner for a couple of tanks, change the plugs if the problem still exists. The coils were not the problem on my vehicle.

SOURCE: replace PCV valve 2001 taurus duratec engline

I dont think it is the PCV but its a good idea to replace the PCV at least once a year either way, and its very cheap, usually $2-$5 at autozone.

SOURCE: My 2002 Ford Taurus will shutter and die when

the idle air control valve is responsible for engine idle.
this is a common failure on ford's. but I don't think yours is bad because it does idle high befor it dies.
you stated you had codes p0171 and p0174 these are lean codes for bank one and two, you said you found a vacuum leak and repaired it, the vacuum leak was mostly likely the cause of the lean codes, however the pcm has calibrated the fueling stategy for this lean mixture, what you need to do is erase the KAM "keep alive memory" this is done by unhooking the negative battery cable for 60 seconds, this is the only way to erase the KAM the $6000.00 machine I use wont even do it.

once the KAM is clean the computer will go into a relearn state and all operating values will be adjusted for the vehicles current condition, during this relearn session the vehicle may have some driveability issues (low or high idle, stalling, poor fuel economy) the relearn should complete within 10 minutes of idling and then 10 minutes of driving.

good luck and keep me updated

Idle surging down a little when at stop lights in my 2000 mustang 3.8 never dies but seem's close.every 6 to 10 seconds no difference noticed while driving down the road. changed AIC valve for a c

probably cause by the a/c cutting in and out or running at idle . Fit an idle compensator to the system throttle or raise the idle speed 300rpm.

Sounds like the idle control valve. The same thing happened to my Mustang and that was my problem.

One ting comes to mind with your description. The throttle position sensor. They are NOT waterproof and if it got wet, it is shot.

Issue with my 2008 Adly Thunder Bike 150cc

People this is a scooter. The problem is that your idle screw on the Carb needs adjustment. The idle screw can be adjusted with a Philips screw driver. Follow your throttle cable to the carb. You'll see a screw that pushes a pulley down raising your rpms. This will lower your idle causing the rpms to drop and since your scooter transmission is propelled my higher RPMs the bike will stop thrusting you forward when you stop at red lights.

My 2000 mazda protege 1.6l is overrevving. i start it and it jumps to 4500 rpms. i tap the gas afew times and it will start to let down to about 1500 to 2000 and rev up and down between the two. i turn on...

There might be a vacuum line off somewhere, or forgot to be reconnected.
Also have the idle/air control valve checked, ( It's mounted on the throttle plate), the pintal inside might be stuck or inoperative.
