The vehicle is having problems reading the tiny metal security slug in the ignition key. When you used a key to unlock the door, you disabled the security system so it started. There are a variety of different resistance values on the slugs in the key. You can have someone with a ohm meter read the resistance of yours and install a fixed resistor of the same identical value to the wiring for the key security system. You may alternatively spray contact cleaner or a bit of WD-40 in the ignition switch to clean it off. Insert and remove the key several times, wiping it off each time you remove it.

The theft deterrent module or the insturment cluster or the ECM is not seeing correct info.
The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system functions are provided by the theft deterrent control module. When an ignition key is inserted into the ignition lock cylinder and the ignition is switched ON, the transponder embedded in the head of the key is energized by the exciter coils surrounding the ignition lock cylinder. The energized transponder transmits a signal that contains its unique value, which is received by the theft deterrent control module. The theft deterrent control module then compares this value to a value stored in memory, learned key code. If the value is correct the theft deterrent control module sends a random generated number to the transponder, this is called a challenge. Both the transponder and the theft deterrent control module perform a calculation on the challenge, if the calculations match the theft deterrent control module sends the fuel continue password via the serial data circuit to the Engine control module (ECM). If either the transponders unique value or the calculation to the challenge is incorrect the theft deterrent control module will send the fuel disable password to the ECM via the serial data circuit. All elements of PATS must be functional before the engine is allowed to start. If any of the components are not working properly, the vehicle will not start.
PATS uses a visual theft indicator. This indicator will prove out for three seconds when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START under normal operation. If there is a PATS problem, this indictor will either flash rapidly or glow steadily (more than three seconds) when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START. no cutoff switch!! try this turn key to on, do not start car. let sit for about 30 minutes, after 30 minutes, turn key off. wait 15 seconds and try to start car. this should reset anti theft system.

Its your engine to chassis ground I had same problem replace wire or try sanding paint around connection for better connection. The wire is located on top left of engine, very visible

the wire that goes to the ignition to the anti theft device is probably broken if you call a good locksmith they can go in through the steering column and fix it same thing happened to my 95 eldorado apparently cadillac designed the anti theft system to coincide with the ignition and is connected to the ignition with two wires that turn as the key is turned the wires twist and eventually they wear out
