Code 7E8 and 7E9 are diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that are related to the engine control module (ECM) in your Dodge Ram 1500. These codes indicate a problem with the communication between the ECM and other components in the vehicle's electronic control system.

To troubleshoot these codes, you can try the following steps:

Check the wiring: Make sure that all of the wiring to and from the ECM is secure and not damaged.

Check the connectors: Make sure that all of the connectors are properly seated and not damaged.

Check for loose or damaged components: Make sure that all of the components in the electronic control system are properly installed and not damaged.

Check for software updates: Your vehicle may have a software update available that could fix the issue. You can check with a dealership or online to see if there are any software updates available for your vehicle.

Check for other DTCs: There may be other DTCs present that are causing the issue. You can use a diagnostic tool to read the DTCs and see if there are any additional codes that need to be addressed.

If you are unable to troubleshoot the issue with these steps, it may be best to seek the help of a professional mechanic. They will be able to diagnose the problem and recommend the appropriate repair.

Hi. I think you bought a new scan tool. No Problem. 7E8 and 7E9 are subcategories for the engine and transmission. Scroll down some more. OBD2 engine codes will always start with "P". Example: P0300- Random misfire. Good Luck.

Engine code $7E8: engine $7E9: A/T any idea what these are

$7E8 and $7E9 are sub menus for the Engine and Transmission. You need to select one and press enter. It will then give you the code for that sub menu.
