I own 1998 xj8 jaguar at speeds 50to65 sometimes the engine stalls

I'm having a similar issue to the one described in this post:

However, I can not find an inertia switch. I have a 1998 Jaguar XK8 convertible. Does being a convertible make a difference in this switch's location?
I removed the passenger kick panel and also checked in the fuse box door on the dash at the passenger side. Thank you.

See the answer above about a breather hose that gets clogged and prevents air getting into the engine especially when you slow down.You can clear the hose with an air line.

You might need a lube job or you may need to see if noise is coming from another place such as your engine water pump, brakes, power steering. Look for leaks.

ther are 2 buttons below the gear shift towards the rear of the car - one has what looks like a spedometer symbol on it - press tthe symbol and it activates the cruise control - then use the set button of the steering wheel to set the speed you want

starters is mounted on the bottom of engine. its a little long electric motor with a little drive gear that mesh to flywheel to turn engine over to crank.

The early XJ8s were designed to operate as you describe, only kicking the fans in with the AC which is fine when the cars warming up (in fact it helps the car warm up faster & use less fuel), however, Jaguar realised in some climates this was causing overheating, later ones (99my on) operate constantly with the ignition on at slow speed & speed up if it detects it needs to.

This is a complex 2 relay system with alot of wiring that goes into the ECU & cant easily be retrofitted to your one.

I`d advise you to take the car to a good auto electrician & ask him to fit a manual switch on the dash with a relay to the fans so you can turn it on manually when its warmed up (if he can fit a slow speed relay with a resistor as well as a full power one, all the better, as you dont want to over cool either).

I`d also advise you to get the thermostat changed every year & the water pump to be upgraded to the current spec one, as these are both known issues that occur & also cause overheating.
