The plastic cover is usually over something too rigid to allow pushing out. Normally you have to take the plastic cover off, pop it out, and then put it back on.

How do I repair a dent in the rear bumper of my 2004 Honda pilot? Do I have to remove the bumper and if so how is that done?

depending if its plastic you can remove the dent using a heat gun and a tap around the bump usually pop out. removing the bumper there are screws on the sides behind the wheel arch covers and 4 bolts around 1 foot away from the corners, if your model has sensors in the bumper they will need to be discounted. also any other wires that are they before you pull off the bumper.

Cadilac front bumper

If you want to repair yourself, I would start by taking the bumper cover off, then slowly warming the dent area (front and back of the cover) with a heat gun (careful as you could easily scorch). Then pressing evenly from the backside outward. Once the dent is popped back, let cool, then inspect for finish damage that may require attention.

Else, go see a PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) tech who can affix a pull to the outside and try to draw it out.

Most dents can be popped or tapped back out, provided it has not crumpled or creased the metal.

Toyota Sienna bumper dent

These vans have a styrofoam bumper wrapped in semi-rigid plastic. When you dented the bumper you probably dented the styrofoam as well, so depending on how deep the dent is you may not be able to bring it back to normal.

The surest way to fix the dent would be to remove the bumper by unbolting it, then taking out the styrofoam and pushing out the dent.
