My hatch is stuck on my 2008 Kia Sportage, and we've already taken out the 3 bolts at the bottom of the door (that connects to the latch)
Solution: you need the valet key and there should be a way to open it from the inside -jeff ps please rate , i have had the same problem many times with my mercury villager. one thing i have found to work on more than one occasion is while it is closed, push the back hatch as if you were shutting it. hit the lock button ( either on remote or inside of van ). then push the handle out on the hatch to make sure it will catch all the way. unlock the doors and pull on the handle, the hatch should open with no problem. , if it is electronic check the fuses first. if not electric spray with WD-40 in key hole and around button

We had the same problem.
I took out the bolts outside, then crawled into the back area of the car, and took a screw driver, and slid it along the inner hatch catch, and found the safety latch and released the hatch. Then I took the inside off, and disconnected the handle device from the inside. It was rusted, and broken. I went to Kia, and bought a new one and reinstalled, after greasing the new one up. Took me a while, but they wanted 280.00 in labor, so it was well worth it.
Just be patient and go slow. A good metric socket set will be the best thing, with a regular and phillips screw driver.
Good luck
David
