How can I remove the rear latch from the hatch door?

My hatch is stuck on my 2008 Kia Sportage, and we've already taken out the 3 bolts at the bottom of the door (that connects to the latch)

Solution: you need the valet key and there should be a way to open it from the inside -jeff ps please rate , i have had the same problem many times with my mercury villager. one thing i have found to work on more than one occasion is while it is closed, push the back hatch as if you were shutting it. hit the lock button ( either on remote or inside of van ). then push the handle out on the hatch to make sure it will catch all the way. unlock the doors and pull on the handle, the hatch should open with no problem. , if it is electronic check the fuses first. if not electric spray with WD-40 in key hole and around button

SOURCE: My 2003 Kia Rio Cinco back hatch latch handle is

We had the same problem.
I took out the bolts outside, then crawled into the back area of the car, and took a screw driver, and slid it along the inner hatch catch, and found the safety latch and released the hatch. Then I took the inside off, and disconnected the handle device from the inside. It was rusted, and broken. I went to Kia, and bought a new one and reinstalled, after greasing the new one up. Took me a while, but they wanted 280.00 in labor, so it was well worth it.
Just be patient and go slow. A good metric socket set will be the best thing, with a regular and phillips screw driver.
Good luck
David

How do you open the back door (no manual)

Rear hatch is locked or unlocked with a key. (if equipped) • To open the rear hatch, insert the key into the lock, turn it to the unlock position and pull up the rear hatch by pressing the handle (DOOR). You can also lock/unlock the latch (but not release it) with the central door lock system. • If unlocked, the rear hatch can be opened by pressing the handle (DOOR) and pulling the hatch up. • To close the rear hatch, lower and push down the rear hatch firmly. Make sure that the rear hatch is securely latched.

Not sure about your car, but on my Chrysler mini van the same problem happened. The problem was not the motor but the body control module. The unit had 2 relays, but the BCM actualy controls the unit. To replace the BCM was $450. I bypassed the problem by installing an on/off switch inside the car and activated the motor by by passing the BCM at the relay. That was 3 years ago, still works great. Your BCM may be the problem. Check the schematics of the relays and try doing the same.

I can't lock the rear hatch door on my yukon. There is no key lock and the remote button locks all the other doors but the rear hatch remains unlocked. Also the button on the inside of the vehicle does not...

The lock is stuck in the "locked" position.
When you close the hatch, it is jamming the latch hook into the wrong area.

Manually open the hatch. Unlock the hatch (even tho the hatch is already open). there are two bolts holding the metal "loop", the loop has moved. Adjust the metal loop and close the hatch / lock it, etc.

Back door latch broke cant open back door where can i buy the part and the name of the part

I just bought the part last week for 61.76 from the dealership. It takes about two hours to unscrew the strap from the inside, remove trim from the inside starting at the top, sides and bottom. Remove the license plate from the outside of the hatch. Next remove the 8 bolts (10mm)and 3 white plastic tabs that snap on from the large black plate and move to the side (you don't need to disconnect the wires). From here you can reach around the rear window unit and open the door by moving the latch or pulling the cable. You should remove the 4 nuts that hold on the rear window assembly and move the to reach two nuts which holds the center portion of the trim piece you are trying to remove. There should be a plastic piece covering the cable and latch, it just pops off by pulling it straight out. There are three plastic tabs in the corners and one screw (lock for the hatch) that holds on the license plate assembly to the rear hatch along with two white plastic tabs which are located at the bottom two holes for license plate. These plastic tabs come in from the front. Use pliers to squeeze the together and push. You will need to disconnect the license plate lamp wire connector from the left side. The license plate assembly should drop away. Two screws hold on the latch, remove and replace and reverse proceedure.

We are trying to replace the upper brake light on a 2002 kia rio 4 door hatch back. Do not know how to remove cover inside hatch door to get to bulb. Can anyone help?

1. Remove 2 plugs attaching liner to body to right/left of left/right light assembly. 2. Gently pull back liner to expose rear of light assembly. 3. Remove three 10mm nuts from exposed bolts. 4. Assembly now held in place by a plug in assembly that goes into a white plastic plug that extends into trunk under single bolt [See no. 3). 5. Pull to rear with wiggle movement to pull out plug. Takes a little while.
