Trunk won open even with manual release http://newbeetle.org/forums/new-beetle-convertible/54170-trunk-wont-open-even-manual-release.html there is good info here C24OF
does the back seats fold down? you may have to open it from the inside, and it sounds like the lock is jammed . you can replace them and use the old key and cylinder
When you press the trunk open button, do you hear any "release" noise come from the trunk area? The issue may be a bad battery in the key fob OR there could be an issue with the transmitter located inside the vehicle. Do the doors lock and unlock properly? is the vehicle equipped with security or immobilizer? please advise
Lower the back seat and crawl into the trunk and see what the latch is doing when you activate the key fob. the trunk lid will have to be open to enable any repairs. Also an emergency release cable is probably visible (yellow handle) inside the trunk and will Open the trunk lid.
1. Open trunk
2. Place latch in lock position
3. Pull inside trunk release to see what isn't moving
4. If trunk key won't turn, the key may be worn out and need to be replaced
It locks the lever that opens the trunk of the car so you wont be able to use that lever to open the trunk from inside the vehicle. The master key should fit in it. You will still be able to open the truck with the key on the outside right at the trunk with the key even if you have the lever locked. It's a security thing. I hope this helps.
this trunk is designed that there a position of the trunk lock that locks that inside handle, some car also use a lever at the latch to disable the inside trunk release,im 1 sure this car uses the trunk lock, take a look and see if you lock out the inside release. if the lock window where you put the key in is pointing at 3 or 9 oclock then its locked the inside release if its at 12 or 6 oclock then the inside release should work and then the cable may be bad, good luck.
A dealer or qualified locksmith can make a key from the VIN, provided the lock cylinders are original. Usually they will require proof of ownership before doing so.
Look at the trunk lock itself and see if there is a cable or wire going to it. cable type is generally part of the gas cover release. electric type can be anywhere (look in the glovebox first.) If there is no cable or wire you don't have a second release.
