The transmission sensor or speed sensor is located in most vehicle located on the transmission case. These speed sensors are driven by a gear located on the output shaft. The speed sensor's driven gear can be either machined or fastened by a clip. The driven gear is made by plastic to make it softer than the drive gear. It's located on the end of the vehicle speed sensor.

Your car is in "limp"mode because the computer doesn't know what speed your doing,So it doesn't shift, There are three possible reasons for this, #1= input sensor faulty on transmission, #2=output sensor faulty on transmission, #3=speed sensor faulty on transmission, you need to have the transmission codes read to know which one,Autozone checks codes for free.
the speed sensor is on the transmission and controls the cruise control , ratio changes if auto
they are available from dealer spares or wreckers/junk yards or possibly e-bay
They are not the sensors you want. The car uses the abs wheel sensors for vehicle speed. Your problem lies in the abs system , possibly the left front sensor, abs ecu or speedo cluster, Clear the code and see if it stay out otherwise you'll need to go to a trusted technician. .
Which sensor? The solenoid pack is located on the front, under a black rubber cover, right under where the cooler lines go it. But this is only on the 4 speed Trans. If you have a three speed trans, there is no solenoid pack on the outside. Also the 3 speed does not have an input shaft or output shaft speed sensor, only a vehicle speed sensor.
what system are you communicating with? sounds like a transmission input or output shaft speed sensor-which would be locate in the valve body solenoid plate.
