An alternator that is charging will keep the engine running if the battery is removed
removing a battery lead when the alternator is running is a bad idea as it can cause diode failures in the rectifier and other possible electronic failures

you have reasons such as bad battery cells, boot light still on , glove box light still on, interior light still on, relays nor working properly and still drawing current, faulty ECM, alternator diode failed

SOURCE: 2002 Hyundai Accent Problem

first thing i need to know is did the timing belt break?
second is are you sure you aligned the timing marks and after the belt tensioner was tight you rechecked to make sure the timing stayed where you had it.
next step would be a compression check to if a valve was bent whenchanging the belt
i have seen this happen and this engine is an interferance engine.

SOURCE: How do I change an alternator belt on a '99 hyundai accent?

Call your local National Guard Armory, Fire Station, State College auto program or High School Auto Shop and ask if they have somebody that would come put it on for you. Ask you pastor who the "auto guy" in the church is, if you don't have a church call the biggest church closest to you and ask the receptionist if they have an "auto guy" that would help you. The local senior center or VFW hall have "auto guys" . If you were within 50 miles of 83501 I'd come do it for you.

Removal & Installation Raise and support the vehicle.

    Remove the engine splash shield.
  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
  2. Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
  3. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
  4. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.
To install:
  1. Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
  2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  3. Install the drive belt to the alternator.
  4. Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
  5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
  6. Install the engine splash shield.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

It's O.K. to ask for some help.

SOURCE: Can't get gas into my 2002 Hyundai Accent.

The reason the gas station pump shuts off is when the fuel reaches the tip of the gas nozzle, so when you are filling your car and the gas nozzle (gas stations pipe) keeps shutting off it means that the pipe that runs to the gas tank is not open completely, what happens is when you pump the gas in the car the supply pipe from the gas tank opening to the tank fills up quickly and this causes the gas station pipe nozzle to shut off, have some body take down the gas tank and have a look at the gas tank opening and also gas supply pipe that runs from the gas filler opening ( on the car body) to the gas tank. Have a look at it and please don't forget to rate the answer if it was helpful, thanks!

2010 hyundai accent will start and run after being jumped but once you shut it off it wont start on its own

Battery is probably bad, or connections to it are really oxidized. Battery can be tested by any AutoZone or similar store that sells auto parts. Lastly it is possible that the alternator is bad or you have a slipping belt that runs the alternator. This would account for the battery not getting recharged. Try a new battery first.

98 hyundai accent electrical battery drain?

Never, never, never (!) pull a battery cable off while the ignition is on or engine running. I know that used to be the old way to check alternators, but that was before modern electronics and computers on cars. Nowadays, you can fry the electronics, the computer, and the alternator by doing that. It causes voltage spikes in the electrical system, and very harmful to electronics. Sounds like you are still okay, just giving you a heads-up.
Sounds to me like you may have a weak battery or a short in the cd player. If your battery is 3 or 4 years old, I would try a new battery, or take yours to have tested. If it is good, you might want the charging system checked. With a voltmeter on the battery, engine running, voltage should be about 13.5 volts. That is what the alternator needs to be putting out to recharge the battery for the next start-up.
Good luck.

2007 hyundai accent humming front end tire

Same with my 07 Accent. bought new in 07, noise started last spring 2013 at 63,000 miles, a year later at 97,000 getting louder but still rolling along, high speeds and pulling a trailer some of the time. Cannot believe a bad bearing would last that long.

Hi. I have an '02 Hyundai Accent. It has shut off 3 times while I'm driving, with no electrical response. I wait it out and it eventually starts up. For the past few months the instrument panel lights go...

Different areas worth checking in order of seriousness are:

  • loose battery cables/terminals - if they are loose, a bump could temporarily disrupt your connection
  • loose battery - the battery itself may be moving around in it's compartment when you hit a bump or jump on the brakes
  • defective alternator - the alternator gives off several symptoms when it's on it's way out. interference when the radio is on, very slow windshield wipers, dim headlights.
Bring the car to any of the bigger chain autoparts stores that feature a free electrical test. They could rule out a bad alternator or possibly narrow down what you should do next.

I have a 1999 hyundai accent i thought the alternator was gone but bought one and it still isnt charging id dont know i take the battery cable off and the car quits and does not charge enough to even start...

When you car is running and you take off the cable from the battery, the engine is quitting than youe Alternator is bad. This is happening on the new one then the new one is also bad.
When you don't have enough charge, it doesn't mean your alternator is bad, just the corroded terminals at cable had high resistance to limit the current flowing in.
If you have a Voltmeter you can measure the voltage when the car running and when it is off, the difference can tell you the alternator is bad if the voltage is not higher than when it is not running.
If you don't have a voltmeter then bring your car to any Auto Zone store, they can check free for the problem with an alternator or not.
Remember a loosed belt won't help charging a lot.
