Cable broke or came off transmission , look under hood at the transmission an have someone move gear selector , does it move on the transmission .

put the shifter in what you believe is neutral and try to start it, jolts forward then yes you are stuck in a gear...

year make and model would help further

check the master cylinder the seals may be gone .if so get the seals online.or it is your clutch fork.not on your thrust bearing.

If you have a hyd clutch and not cable..it may have went bad

If you tow your car in neutral how come is stuck on one gear. Towing got no problems. That mean it wasnt in neutral it was in gear but the clutch is stuck and seem the gear is in neutral. You should have clutch problem before you think about gear box.

The mechanic should check the third gear of the transmission . And the shift gear check the shift gear too for why it stuck while on the third gear. if the gear is worn out or destroyed then replace the third gear.Then also look and check the oil seal to make sure the problem is solved. then check and adjust the shift lever sleeve so that it will not stuck.

I think you have Check Gear Shift Liver Lock System. Then You have to check Brake Padel Switch because you can move gear shifter by pressing brake padel. Is your brake Padel switch defect stuck in any position.
