SOURCE: Replaced power steering pump in

Check for leaks in the steering rack or at the hoses. You may be loosing pressure from these leeks. Inspect the steering boot underneath.

Is fuel pump working? Use pressure gauge to test at key on. If not, test fuses, and then for current reaching pump. May be bad relay or bad pump.

I have a 2009 RX8 R3 w/20,000 miles on it. Just started it to go get gas and out of no where the power steering stopped working. Yellow steering wheel light w/! Is on. WTF? I know how to drive without...

One of two things have happened:
  1. Your power steering pump went out and needs to be replaced or,
  2. The drive belt that controls the PS pump broke
The RX8 has only two drive belts so if they are both fine and none are broken then it meant that the PS pump itself has went out and needs to be replaced.

Let me know what you think and dont forget to rate the solution.

Thank you and have a great day!

My brakes feel hard and the abs does not work i dont think also no power steering looked at new ones at auto zone they asked me if it had vacuum boost or something makes me almost think the vacuum is bad...

It likely has hydroboost brakes. A bad power steering pump or a power steering pump that is low on fluid would cause all your problems. Is this gas or diesel?

Whining when i press gas

normally, the only part of your automatic transmission that will make a whining noise is the pump. it usually whines when iether the fluid is low or more commonly when the transmission oil filter is getting plugged up.

the power steering pump will also make a whining noise too.

turn the wheel all the way to the right and hold steady pressure against the stop. this puts maximum force on the power steering pump and, if the power steering pump is the one making the whine, it will change the sound of it. (usually louder).

if the trans pump is making the whine noise, it should sound different in neutral compared to drive. this test will really only work if it make the noise without the vehicle moving. if it wont do it at idle hold the rpms at 2000 or so.

if you decide the noise is coming from the transmission, and the transmission filter has not been replaced (assuming you installed a used transmission), replace the filter by removing the oil pan.

oh and also, if it is the power steering pump you should be able to make it make the whining noise while the vehicle is stationary. if it wont make noise unless its moving its not the power steering pump.

Do I have to remove the whole power steering to install water pump?

I think on that model you have to remove the power steering pump pulley first before you can get to the rest of the power steering pump mounting bolts.
You can rent a special puller / installer from one from your local auto parts store.
Once you have pulled the pulley and removed the pump mounting bolts, just drop the whole pump unit with the hoses attached out of the way of the water pump.
Good Luck.

I'm replacing water pump, all bolts are out except the back one ,it seems that the pully on the I think power stering pump wont alloy me to get it all the way out

Have to remove the two power steering pump bolts. They're 13mm head. Once power steering pump is out of the way, waterpump bolt can be removed.

Power steering dont work to left or right

To find out witch it is,pump or rack and pinion, break loose the presure line on the power steering pump with a wench.Start the car and turn the steering wheel back and forth, you may need to loosen the nut on the power steering hose two or three turns to get the fluid to shoot out.It should come out pretty forceful. If it doesn`t,then replace the pump.If it does come out really powerful, replace the rack and pinion.
