Does abs shutt off four wheel drive

I suggest scanned the ABS module in order to know fault codes stored there; sometimes just need speed wheel sensor adjustemtn, but need the real fault code in there.

I have an Audi a4 2001 1.8t and the asr light its flashing, thanks for your help my name is Marcos Aguilar

ASR - Acceleration Skid Control system.
When ASR warning light blinking the system is activated itself for car acceleration skid control.

For today's typical high-torque engines, traction control (ASR) can increase both comfort and safety, particularly when driving on slippery roads or surfaces offering differing levels of grip. Traction control permits smooth starting and acceleration through the full speed range without wheel-spin or fishtailing.
tdisline_338.jpg

ASR only operates in conjunction with the electronic accelerator (E-gas) and uses components of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). If one wheel suddenly begins to rotate faster than the others (slip), ASR intervenes in the engine management system and reduces power until the wheel stops spinning.
The ASR system represents a further contribution to active safety as it maintains vehicle traction and directional stability throughout the acceleration phase at any speed. In addition, it reduces tyre wear. Activation of the ASR system is indicated by a flashing indicator lamp in the instrument cluster.

The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. If the ESP lights on the dashboard permanently the ESP system is faulty. You must access the ESP Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the ABS ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com, or similar) connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Code) memored. Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC's stocked inside ABS ECU & reset it.

Good Luck!

I suspect bad brake pedal switch, but you should scan the ABS & TC ECU's.

What to look for when your ABS light comes on. Is therea sensorthat needsto be replaced. Where are the ABS located on the car. Thanks

Problems with ABS can be frustrating. You have senors on the front wheels, you have wires that run to the sensors, plus you have the ECU mounted to the master cylinder or on the fire wall depends on other options. Now the wheel sensors work like little alternators. Your wheels will have a gear that the senor reads as the wheel turns and then creates an A/C voltage that tells the ECU unit that the wheels are turning. Having a ABS code could mean that wiring to one of the sensors is broken or has fallen off, or is corroded at the plug end. Your ABS system has four major parts the ECU, an ABS hydraulic unit and the wiring harness to the wheel sensors, then last the sensors themselves. Now learn what each part looks like I am posting pictures for you. You will need to check all the wiring harnesses to each part. Then check the sensors. here is the ECU unit --->> e6fbbf8.jpg --->>> Next is the Hydraulic unit.--->>>45dc6de.jpg--->>> Then the wheel sensors. --->>> 3d29687.jpg If you have a multi meter you can read the voltage of each wheel sensor at the other end of its wiring harness. Jack up the front end and find the end of each wheel sensor harness and spin the wheels by hand. you should get a reading on the AC voltage scale of about ..45 volts. not quite a half volt. when the wheel stops the meter should go to zero. spin the wheel and the meter should show voltage. That will tell you if the sensor and the wiring is good. The ECU has no trouble shooting it is good or bad.can't help you there. same with the Hydraulic unit. Most times it will be a wire broken or a bad wheel sensor. Good hunting.

Hello we have a 2000 mercedes clk430 and when you are driving and attempting to stop it feels like the brakes are pumping themselves (the brake petal) and then sometimes the abs and check engine light...

I would start by either replacing the abs switch or checking the present one to be sure it is ok. I am assuming there is disc brakes all four wheels. The pumping would indicate to me that the rotors are not running true or again the abs sys is trying to kick in. Hope this helps.
