Intermittent Gearbox Fault

2000 XJ8 bought in 12/07, couple of times had gearbox fault come up, lmp mode has engaged where it sticks in 3rd. Clears itself usually but now been doing it for 3 days and only cleared briefly. Am under the impression it may well be the "TCU"?

Suggest you get the TCU codes read (Jaguar dealer or well equipped auto box specialist). Suggest you don't go component changing without a believable diagnosis, could be TCU, could be pressure or speed/load sensors, lots of things, many not as expensive as a new TCU!

Peugeot 407 gearbox problems

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units. check oil level on dip stick and make sure it is correct

The 'gearbox fault' is displaying. The car will start. Seems to be stuck in 3rd. Any ideas gratefully recieved.

You are now in Limp Mode - the gearbox is kept this way to allow you to drive the car to a repair shop. Nothing more you can do, a part failed in the gearbox and it must be replaced - dismantling of the gearbox is mandatory.

Trans wont shift up or down..gearbox fault light on

Hello jjames696...The gearbox fault light has come on because the transmission control module (TCM) has received a fault signal from one or both of the two trans. sensors....The Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor and/or Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor. The TCM has now defaulted to limp mode...A diagnostic scan needs to be run...An OBD II scanner will retrive a P1722 fault code, the only code in it's library for the ZF5HP24 transmission. The WDS / IDS will pull other codes not found in the standard OBDII library (dealer or good transmission shop)
When was the last time the transmission was serviced? Manual shifting will take it's toll on the fluid quickly.
The transmission is sealed, no dipstick (which i think is a bad idea) You can check the fluid level by removing a plug on the passenger side of the case, you should be able to touch the fluid with your finger. Jaguar fluid is VERY expensive, Mobil 1 synthetic will work and meets ESSO specs.
Personally...i would change fluid every 25-30k.
Hopefully all you have is a bad sensor or a stuck solenoid and no internal componet damage.
Good luck, hope this answers your question...please take time to rate my fixya reply.

GEARBOX FAULT MESSAGE for jaguar s 2001

Replace transmission and sell quickly. I bought 2001 s-type in October 2008. I have not been able to drive it. 1st thing was gearbox fault message which turned out to be transmission. Ford can rebuild cheaper. Next thing to happen was all seals needed replacing. Then all coils needed to be replaced. Coils keep going out. Needs new computer which has 8 year/80000 mile warranty on, but Jag would not honor ($3000). Needless to say my pretty jag sits in the driveway. Had to get another car. Went with Lincoln LS V8. GREAT car!

Fault in Automatic Gearbox and Check Engine Light

If the transmission is still operating ok, you can drive it, but you need to get it checked, since a fault has been detected by the transmission computer.

Mercedes benz c200 (w202)gearbox fault

There is a special additive lubricant for gear transmission to solve this problem. Just add on to gear oil. I had the same problem. now ok.
