SOURCE: when i start car with

The clutch is your problem as it is not lifting enough to disengage when the engine is running .It may be an adjustment (if cable clutch) or if its hydraulic check for leaks ,also check to see how much the slave cylinder is moving when somebody presses the pedal (engine not running). If the clutch fork is moving enough then you are going to need a new clutch.

SOURCE: My vehicle was moving then later indicate neutral and stop I try to engage the gear but the vehicle won't move why

If the gear indicator changed to neutral without you doing anything, I would say the transmission selector switch has failed. The switch tells the computer what position the shifter is in.

My 1987 GMC s15 automatic 4x4 pickup keeps popping out of normal gear. The only gear it stays in is 4 low. Where do I start?

I'm assuming you're talking about the transfer case popping out of 2 high or even 4 high. It could be that the transfer case needs a chain or gears replaced and is slipping on the cogs/gears. In 4 low it takes less pressure/strain to move the vehicle so it doesn't slip. I would put the trans. AND transfer case in neutral, with the FRONT wheels blocked, and NOT running, jack at least one rear wheel off of the ground, and try turning the rear drive shaft back and forth to feel the free play (free play in the transfer case, not the rear end). Excessive free play should tell you that the drive chain/gears are very warn and could be slipping. That would be a start.

When i try to put it in park it takes it at times. i have to start it on neutral at times. it feels to smooth when i try to sift the gear.

Two possible causes could be a bad neutral safety switch (enables the vehicle to start in only Park or Neutral) or the transmission linkage may need adjusting. If you feel significant "play" in the gear shift (from what you described, it appears to have a lot of play) the linkage will need to be adjusted to get the gear shift to "lock in" to the individual gears instead of sliding.

Put car into low 4 wheel drive, then switched it back to auto...but the light on dash still says low 4wd. How bad a problem and can we continue to drive it local ...feels like in low 4wd?

To get into low and to get out of low you are suppose to put the vehicle in neutral. Its not suppose to shift without using the neutral position once the gear is selected. The knobs and lights on the dash will not response correctly without going into neutral.

You should be back to normal once you follow the procedure. You should not over rev the engine by driving in low, so watch your tachometer and do not exceed 3000 rpm.

Taking a while to go into gear

Check the fluid level of the transmission. The model number in your vehicle is the A500,also designated the 42RE.With this trans, the fluid level is checked with the trans in Neutral, and the parking brake set, with the vehicle on level ground. If it is low on fluid, then there is a leak that must be located, and repaired.
