Actually you can adjust the catches that are part of the door by loosening them enough to slide them towards the OUTSIDE of the door....then tighten them back up.

SOURCE: 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan: after sliding side door

Try putting a screwdriver in to act as catch on door frame & try pulling each handle & getting it to let go. Make sure you spray it, as well as behind it & around it with WD-40 or similar to get things loosened up in case their just partially seized. The keep working it with screwdriver until freed up.

SOURCE: door ajar light stays on door won't close all the way

-Just disconnect the wire that hook up to the switch.
(Only on the effect door)
-Or remove the switch and if you can put a spacer to bring the swtich
to the outside little more. That will solve the problem.

SOURCE: 2008 Dodge Caliber driver side front door won't close.

They have been a known problem and need to be lubricated often. There may even be a technical service bulletin on them , check with dealer for possibility of any partial extended warranty regarding those hinges.

What do I need to do in order to get the back door on the passenger side to close? A tech from AAA said I needed a spring for the door latch?

if it won`t close look at the door latch mechanism. there should be two u shaped claws that close around the door striker plate pin, sometimes these get closed before the door is closed causing the door not to close and stay closed. if they are closed(claws) pull the door handle to open the door and take something and push the claws out(open) then close the door.

How to remove sliding door inside panel of Mazda MPV

1. Work with slider in open position. It helps if you are on a slight incline so that door stays in fully-open position and won't slam shut on your fingers.
2. Remove inner handles and door panel:
a) Inner handle. Remove the inner handle first. You can't see it too easily but a wire clip about the same thickness as a large paper clip holds the handle to its shaft. It's shaped like an upside down "U" so it needs to be pushed straight up. Press the panel outward around the handle and you can just see the clip. Use a small thin screwdriver to locate the bottom tips of the clip and push it up. You may have to alternate from side to side but it will pop off. Grab it with a pair of needlenose pliers if you have to. The door handle willl now slide off - just pull it towards you.
b) Power window switch. Remove power window button by squeezing hidden tabs along the sides of the button. Again, you may have to push the panel outward a little and pry the switch to see the tabs. Wiggle it a little and the button will release. Pull it out and unplug the wiring harness.
c) Door panel. There are several plastic buttons which hold the panel on at the bottom and up the sides. Use a plastic putty knife to get behind panel and pop it out of the holes.
3. Once all trim fasteners are released, grab the door panel at the bottom and pull straight up to release it at the top. You may have to give it a quick upward tug to get it to release. Push the power window button wires through the mounting hole. Look at the panel buttons to make sure that all of them came off with the panel. If not, remove the remaining ones from the door and put them in their respective slots on the door panel. (Trying to re-attach the panel without the buttons installed on the panel will be frustrating.)
4. Outer handle removal.
a) Unclip the handle lock button / bar by turning the small tab and pulling the bar out of its slot. Hard to describe here but you'll figure it out once you see it.
b) Remove three bolts which hold the handle on the door. Note that one bolt is accessible from the outside of the door along the front jamb.
Replace handle and reverse the steps above.

Notes: Check the locking mechanism and make sure the door opens and closes before you reassemble the panel. Remember to orient the inner handle the right way before you re-attach its spring clip. (I've attached it upside down and it won't work!!!) . Also, be sure to feed the power window wiring harness back through the mounting hole before putting the panel back on.

Rear passenger door won't stay closed

Door latch on door itself is in closed position if it will not close at all. In this case, open door and pull outside handle hard to pop open door latch. If you have door opening at random, door latch needs replacing or door catch on body is loose.

YJ wrangler door wont close

Start out by checking the latch mechanism on the door. Use a screwdriver to "trip" the latch with the door open, then pull on the screwdriver against the latch gate. If it doesn't hold then you may have a bad latch (the springs in the latch can go bad over time). You can also try spraying penetrating oil (PB Blaster) into the latch and again using a screwdriver to trip the latch, then open with the handle, and repeat several times to work the oil into the mechanism and free it up (this trick also sometimes works with the springs on wiper arms that have lost tension). If the penetrating oil trick works, think about spraying dry lube or white lithium grease into the latch to help prevent it from happening again. If the door is misaligned, consider new hinge bushings, a misaligned door can cause damage to the door, and put tension on the door latch in a direction that puts pressure on the latch that it wasn't designed for.

Here's something that might help you. Look at the door theres a little hook that grabs the striker on car, hold the door handle "open" and move the hook to the open position try to close the door. That should solve your problem. Hope that helps you.
