Where is the 0 marking for the headlamp adjustlent. I can center the bubble at 0, not clear where the 0 is on the increment marks that the pointer adjusts to.

Headlamp Aiming
  1. The headlamp aiming procedure depends on what type of beam pattern the headlamp is equipped with. Vehicles may come equipped with visual optical left (VOL), visual optical right (VOR) or SAE only (includes sealed beam type) headlamps. To identify the headlamp beam pattern, look on the headlamp lens. Molded in small letters on the headlamp lens is 1 of the following:
    • SAE
    • VOL and SAE
    • VOR and SAE
  1. Once the headlamp beam pattern is identified, aim the headlamps using 1 of the following methods as applicable.
    • Photometric aimers can aim VOL-, VOR- and SAE-type headlamps only. This is the preferred method of headlamp aiming.
    • Visual or screen method aiming can be used to aim VOL-, VOR- and SAE-type headlamps only.
    • Mechanical aimers cannot be used with VOR- or VOL-type headlamps. Aerodynamic lamps that can be aimed mechanically have 3 nibs molded into the lens of the lamp.
    • Photometric Aiming
      1. For the photometric aiming procedure, refer to the appropriate photometric headlamp aimer instruction manual.

      Screen Method Aiming
      All headlamp types NOTE: Horizontal aim is not necessary for VOL or VOR headlamps.
      NOTE: Consult your state vehicle inspection manual for recommended tolerance ranges for visual aiming.
      NOTE: The sight shield may need to be positioned or removed for access to the adjusters.
      1. Before starting headlamp adjustment:
        • check the tire inflation.
        • check that no other load is in the vehicle other than a half tank of fuel.
        • check that the headlamps are clean.
        • check for correct headlamp operation.
        • check that the vehicle is on level ground.
        • if the vehicle is equipped with air suspension, make sure that the switch is on.
      1. NOTE: The vertical wall or screen must be a minimum of 2.4-m (8-ft) wide.
        Park the vehicle on a level surface approximately 7.6-m (25-ft) from the vertical wall or screen directly in front of it.
      1. NOTE: The center of the lamp is marked either on the lens (circle, crosshair or other mark) or on the bulb shield internal to the lamp (crosshair or other mark).
        Mark a horizontal reference line on the vertical wall or screen.
        1. Measure the center of the headlamp height to ground and record the measurement.
        1. Make a 2.4-meter (8-ft) horizontal mark (using masking tape) on the vertical wall or screen at the same distance from the ground as previously recorded.
      1. NOTE: This procedure should be done in a dark environment to effectively see the headlamp beam pattern.
        Turn on the low beam headlamps to illuminate the wall or screen and open the hood.
      1. NOTE: For SAE-type headlamps, the appearance of the beam pattern may vary between vehicles.

      2. SAE-type headlamps
        1. In addition to the horizontal line marked in Step 3, a pair of vertical lines must be marked at the center line of the headlamps on the wall or screen.
          1. Mark the center line of the vehicle on the wall or screen.
          1. Measure from the center of the headlamp to the center line of the vehicle.
          1. Make two 1.5-meter (5-ft) vertical marks (using masking tape) on the wall or screen at the same distance from the vehicle center line as previously recorded.
        1. On the wall or screen, locate the high intensity area of the beam pattern. Place the left edge of the high intensity zone even with the vertical line corresponding to the headlamp being adjusted.

I am assuming you have the 3.3 litter v-6?cf56ba7.gifI just did my own so I can offer you a few words of personal advice. Make sure, before you remove the crank shaft pulley, that the engine is at TDC. There is a pointer on the lower timing cover that should line up with the mark that is furthest to the left on the crank pulley (looking at it from the front of the truck). If you are replacing the timing belt for maintenance, not failure, make several marks on the cam pullies to the rear of the timing cover with a paint pen before removing the old belt and make sure that everything stays aligned to those marks upon reassembly. If this method is not an option, use the timing dimples on the back of the upper timing cover only as reference points for the cam pulleis (this is where I ran in to trouble). What is most important is that there are exactly 40 teeth on the belt between the marks on the cam pullies and 43 teeth between the right cam pully mark (right cam as you look at the engine from the front of the truck) and the mark on the crank pully. I used a Goodyear Belt that actually had marks that indicated the 40 and 43 tooth increments. Make sure you have the belt on the right directon, arrows to the front of the truck. Again it is very important that the crank pully remain at TDC (top dead center) during the entire process. Good luck, hope you get it the first time and not the second like me!!

How do i get my timing back on, on a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder?

Nissan Pathfinder engine timing is controlled by the Crank Shaft Angle Sensor, or in other words the distributor. which receives the signal from the ECU and the distributor receives its spark from the POWER TRANSISTOR, BASED ON THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR **** POSITION. The distributor has 360 slits which measure the signal input at 180 degrees and 360 degrees.
The crank shaft pulley has timing marks in increments of 5 degress per mark. The correct timing for a 1988 V6 engine is 12 degrees BTDC (Before Top Dead Center) + or - 2 Degress (Strive for 12).
You can then attached the timing light to spark plug wire #1 and point the gun to the timing pointer. With each flash you should see the timing mark (Mark it with white out). If the timing mark does not line up you can loosen the distributor and move it so it lines up that is the damper mark with the pointer. EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT WHICHEVER WAY IS REQUIRED. It is imperative if you have manual tranny to ensure the engine is idling 850 rpms + or - 50, but strive for 850.
700 if Auto Tranny. + OR - 50
Don't forget to retighten the distributor.

The timing marks indicate degrees of advance. Thus, the first mark would be top dead center and in increments of two it increases to 10 degrees before top dead center.

you will have to clean off the harmonic balance,and the pointer to see the marks.the o or top dead center mark could be on a pointer or on the balancer.

Need a picture or diagram of top dead center/86' honda prelude 2.

From what I see in my manual,

1.There is a Timing Pointer on the back of the engine. There is a White mark on the flywheel. The white mark must line up with the timing pointer, for Number 1 piston to be at Top Dead Center.

2.Facing the engine, looking at the camshaft sprocket. The sprocket has spokes. On one of those spokes is the word, "UP" in raised letters, or there is a small Dot. As you can see here, the spoke with the word UP goes -> Up.
(Same thing of course if it is a Dot, instead of UP)

On the back of the camshaft gear, (Sprocket), are marks. On the edges of the camshaft gear. These line up with the top edge of the cylinder head. The surface of the cylinder head, where the valve cover bolts down to.

Headlamp Adjustment Alignment
  1. NOTE: All adjustments should be made with headlamps off and at room temperature.
    Prepare the vehicle for headlamp adjustment.
    • Place the vehicle on a level surface.
    • Before aligning the headlamps, check them for faulty lenses, reflectors and blackened bulbs, and install new components as necessary.
    • Check the tire pressures and correct as necessary. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04 .
    • The vehicle must be unloaded with the exception of a tool kit and spare tire. The fuel tank should be half full.
    • Bounce the vehicle several times both front and rear or roll it a few meters so that the suspension settles.
  1. Locate the headlight adjustment screws.
    1. Vertical adjustment screw.
    1. Horizontal adjustment screw.

  1. Adjust the horizontal headlamp screw until the Horizontal indicator aligns with the "0" reference mark.

Timming

Dear invisible148: I don't know which timing marks it is you are looking for, so I will supply you with several.
The timing marks on the crankshaft pulley which the belt ride on, are "NOTCHES" which have been made on to the top edge of the pulley inside shiv. They are in 5 degree increments. The timing cover has a fixed metal tab shaped like a pointer which sits relatively close to the top of the pulley.
The timing marks for the cam gears and the crank gear are small dots which were stamped on the very edge of the cam gears close to where the belt teeth mesh with the gear. The crank gear has a dot stamped on it, close to the edge of one of the teeth where it too meshes with the timing belt.
