Oil filter caused check engine light?

You cant just turn check engine light off. You have to hook car up to a code reader or scan tool and read trouble codes. Repair trouble codes then erase codes and if problem was repaired check engine light will turn off.

Most of the newer vehicles have a senser that will turn the check engine light on, even when it's time to change the oil. After they change it, they reset the check engine light to turn it off. It could be something as simple as that or even an air filter needing to be changed. The dealer can tell you how to reset that light to turn it off. Good luck!

Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

When the light comes on, one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are stored in the engine control module. These DTCs remain even if the light goes out. To address a Check Engine Light problem, the DTCs are retrieved and the appropriate troubleshooting information is followed in order to determine the problem.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon or small picture of an engine) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible system faults (the gas cap is just one of them) that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen/Oriley and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.

this is generally the O^2 sensor it will go in and out of value corresponding to the vehicle temperature. it would be a good idea to replace the coolant temp sensor and the O^2 sensor.

Hello. The check engine light comes on when the vehicle's computer has detected a problem with one of the components in one of the systems. To find out what exactly that check engine light means you have to hook the vehicle up to a computer scanner. Many auto parts stores now offer this scan for free, as do the AAMCO repair shops. No, and a new battery may not cure the battery light being on. A low or no charge condition will turn the red battery light on, a bad battery will not. A low charge condition could have turn the check engine light on. I would have it checked before I would start replacing parts.
