My personal suggestion would be
to go for these repair catalogs from www.reliable-store.com instead. much better info on all vehicles, complete details, and they also have live assistance feature
On the facia panel of your gearshift there is a small black cover located at the rear of the panel ,on some models there is a hole to the right of the gearshift, forward of the facia panel . Put a thin screw driver down this hole , you will need to feel around and locate the button/lever, it is sprung loaded and can be pushed down with the screw driver . It will release the gearshift but it is advisable to see technician as mine was caused from faulty wires on trailer and had blew a fuse to .
I have a 2011 Ford Transit Connect, my daily driver. Today I drove and parked. I went to drive again and could not get the vehicle out of PARK. I called a tow truck in and the driver showed me the problem. There is a black cover near the gearshift lever that is similar in size and shape to a dime. It can be removed with a small screwdriver. Once removed, there is a white switch revealed. When you push down on the switch while pulling back on the gearshift lever, you will be able to shift out of PARK.
This car has a park lock safety system that will only release the shifter if the brake pedal is pushed and the brake lights work, so first thing is to check and see if you have brake lights.
Do you have tilt steering wheel? First make sure that the wiring to the switch, which is probably located on the gearshifter or the dash. These wires can be shorted out usually pretty easy especailly if located on the gearshifter.( The old wire hanger trick)
Turn the key forward a notch then it should come out. If you are turning the key all the way off it enables the accessories (radio etc), locks the key in the ignition and disables the gear shifter.
If thats not the case then there is a button to be depressed so that the key can turn anticlockwise>off another click and the key can be removed.
It'll be one or the other....faulty ignition lock is the only other diagnosis
