1. Use the mirror and other observation before engaging a turn signal well in advance of making a maneuver so other drivers have adequate time to recognise and allow for your intention.
2. Ensure the turn signal is cancelled after the maneuver is complete.

you don`t say what kind of car you have. there are turn signal cancelling lobes on the turn signal switch and sometimes they are cancelling springs that are pushed back when turning to cancel the signals. sometimes they break and require replacing, sometimes you have to replace the signal switch itself.
Yes ,the plastic cancel peg on the left is broken ,right is close to breaking also,only fix is a new turn signal switch,sorry. should be about a 60.00 job ,plus the switch .another 60.00or so.
you need to replace the turn signal switch there is a tab on the tip that get pushed by a canceling cam most gm dealers can get it for you i have a couple but i don't ship or take checks
This is common for the turn signal/multifunction switch to do this. They have little plastis tabs that are hit when the steering is turned to cancel the signal. If those tabs have worn down or broken, the switch continues to work but will not cancel. Replace the switch if this is a major annoyance to you. Let me know if you need instructions or diagrams.
You may have the tools, but you should pay particular attention to the warnings about the air bag. That module contains a very powerful explosive that can activate even with all power removed, and can present a very serious hazard during removal to get at the turn signal assembly. I strongly recommend either letting a pro do it, or at least get the GM service manual for the vehicle and follow the instructions very carefully.
replace the small silver can in the fuse compartment (flasher) then if the canceling lever still stays on after a turn you must remove the steering wheel and replace the canceling cam
