If the engine smokes all the time it's running then excessive wear of the piston rings is causing it. If the smoke is heavy when you accelerate then clears up then valve stem seals are worn allowing oil to be drawn past the valve stems into the cylinders when idling such as at a stop sign. Once you get going the engine burns the oil making the smoke.

SOURCE: oil consumption, no smoke, no leaks

Oil consumption can be when the piston rings worn out, also valve gaides worn out.
means engine oil passes through the combustion chamber, you cant see smoke sometimes.but when condition of the piston ring is wost you can see smoke behind the exhaust.

SOURCE: High oil Consumption, BMW M5

Look for Castrol TWS 10W60 Motor Oil. This car should not burn so much oil, you need to use a different kind. It is recommended by BMW as well. I also heard the VANOS isnt an issue anymore, can be fixed with a different MAFF. Good luck!

Oil consumption engine runs very well good power no smoke out tail pipes

So how many miles are you getting per litre of oil?

If there is no smoke and you are getting better than 750 miles of mixed driving with no sustained high speeds per litre it would hardly be economic to carry out repairs to improve it, apart from the usual checks for external leakage, the engine breather, turbo seals and ensure the oil pumped to the valve gear can drain back to the sump quickly enough. A build up of sludge can restrict this.

If all is ok and the consumption is too high it is usual to replace the valve stem oil seals as a first step.

My Mondeo MK3 is used a lot of engine oil it has no leaks that I can find anywhere and it doesn't smoke at all please help thanks

A useful method of testing for smoke I have used many times for engines using oil "but not smoking" is a follows.

Check and top up the oil level and then go for a drive to warm up the engine.

Find somewhere to park that is well shaded from breeze and where folk won't be annoyed.

Raise the engine speed to around 2500/3000rpm and hold it at that speed for as long as it takes - usually just a few minutes but maybe a little longer...

The intention is to duplicate the road condition when excess oil consumption is likely to take place but without the slipstream that renders it invisible. Virtually every engine I have tested in this way initially produces no smoke but after a minute or two of sustained constant high engine speed a thin trickle of smoke begins that rapidly thickens until the scenery disappears.

Locating the reason is another trick entirely. Breather problems can contribute to oil consumption and if oil pumped to the camshafts and valve gear can't drain back into the oil pan quickly enough, the level in the cam housings will rise and overcome even relatively healthy stem seals, though faulty valve stem seals is probably the most common cause of excess oil consumption.

Black smoke emission

Sound like the oil rings have collapsed. Assuming this is a petrol engine, check your spark plugs for oil and carbon. If they are dirty then you probably need an engine overhaul.

2005 town and country 3.8 using oil. no leaks 2qts every 3000 miles. any ideas please?

For that type of oil consumption there must be traces of smoke at some time. If there is smoke at start-up and when you lift your foot off the pedal to slow down, the valve stem seals are leaking. If the smoke is predominantly seem under acceleration and normal driving, the oil seal rings are allowing oil into the cylinder/s. At present the oil consumption and cost (if there is no excessive smoke) will be a lit less than the repair of either of the factors I have mentioned above. Try changing to another brand of oil (synthetic oil seem to contribute to high oil consumption). Try a heavier brand of mineral oil, at least a 20W-50 or even a 60 for older engines. Go for an oil that is marketed and backed by a reputable company with a petroleum back round.

Excessive oil consumption. Some smoking when accelerating. No visiable external leaks. Any Idea? 1995 GMC Sierra 2500 5.7 L

excessive oil consumption and smoking is usually due to worn rings and/or valve guides in the engine. If you observe blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe, it signals a worn out engine.

If no external leaks, that's what it is. Maybe try to change the oil with a high mileage oil when changing the oil and filter.

I'm afraid, that these conditions don't get better with time.

A replacement motor, or overhaul of the present one is recommended if you cannot pass emissions tests in your area if required by law.

Oil consumption, no smoke, no leaks

Yes a crappy PVC valve can cause some of your problems but not necessarily all of them, they are cheap, I always replace it to start. The air cleaner housing being full of oil is like how the oil is being consumed. In addition to a PVC valve, there may also be a blow-by hose running into the housing. check to see what other hoses go into the housing & which ones have oil coming from them. I'm not familiar with the "Motor Honey" you mentioned but I rarely add additives to my Engine oil, especially if they are thickeners. The only stuff I recommend is a Quaker state or similar "High Mileage Oil". These semi-synthetic oils have additives to swell old rubber & cork seals in older engines and can help reduce oil consumption & leakage. Again, it may not be a total solution, but it couldn't hurt to drain out all of the existing oil & replace with a high mileage type & also change the filter at the same time. Never mix it with other oils, despite the manufacturer telling you it may be safe to do so.
