My 2002 kia spectra is manual shift but its stuck in a gear I think 1st and the gear shift moves but it don't change gears or go in neutral

Manual refers on Page 65. The overdrive button is the lower one on the gear shift if you have overdrive on your model.

i guessing its an automatic, if it is its the neutral switch not working and probably needs replacing, if it worked in second gear then the switch is not lined up correctly meaning it could be snapped inside https://www.autozone.com/batteries-starting-and-charging/neutral-safety-switch/kia/spectra/2002

The shifter bushings may be worn out. You can get new ones from the dealer or on eBay.

run the fault codes and look for servo/ solenoid /sensor or a faulty TCM

Most likely a broken fork bolt or shift fork itself. You will have to open trans to find issue.

It is probably the bendix not retracting the gear properly.

It could also be the ignition switch, usually when you start it the key moves back a little out of the start position, make sure this is happening. Can you hear the starter when you are in neutral and idling? If so, the gear is not returning, the solenoid is stuck or the wiring is having a problem.

shifter cable either broke or came disconnected

It is the prnd indicator switch on the shift shaft of the transmission,or a shift solenoid,or the valves are sticking in the valve body,try some lube guard,added to the transmission,it is great for stuck valves.

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

if stuck in park sound like the shift lock solenoid. try moving it with the key turned to the first click. or is it not moving after it is in gear?
