Checked fuses #57 & #79 as per manual & they're OK. Horn not working
SOURCE: M3 convertible horn
Hi,
I have to agree with your local garage, to my knowledge, most BMW uses two (2) horns; High Tone - 510Hz and Low Tone - 410Hz. A Hella or Fiamm aftermarkets would also work. As to the location of relay bank, have you tried looking behind/under the glove compartment/box? The relay would be a standard 4/5-terminal type.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

sounds like a prob in the connection to your steering wheel. the steering wheel has a special connection that allows all the functions on it to be connected via a rotating connection (did i say connection enough...? lol) i dont know the terminology behind it, but that rotating thing is what lets you turn the wheel. Otherwise, regular connections with simple wires would bunch up everytime you turn the wheel. It sounds like something came loose or just lost connection in there..
sorry so vague. im a novice at this.
happy hunting

CHECK HORN RELAY .. most of the time its not the horn switch its the relay that's stuck in the in position.
SOURCE: The horn is not working on my N reg 316i.
Here is the problem
In most cases this problem is caused by the rotating ribbon circuit contact under the steering wheel having a broken filament, the part is known as a clock spring contact, u will need to properly disarm the airbag and remove the steering wheel to access the part. WARNING: Failure to follow factory Airbag disarming protocol can result in an unexpected Airbag deployment and possible serious personnel injury or death.
SOURCE: horn relay where is it placed
Hi,
The relay should be located under the hood on the driver side, rear side of strut tower, mounted in fuse/relay box.
Hope this helps...
