There is NO power steering fluid in a 06 Cobalt. It is electric! This is a flaw that GM is not willing to come to terms with. Try topix.com for the list of over 350 people that this has happened to. Also, the dealership wants YOU to pay for it. There should be a recall. VERY dangerous!

If you read and google you will find over 200 more complaints. This is an issue only GM/Chevy can fix. Report it to www.safercar.gov and the Department of Consumer Affairs. I have been battling this issue for 2 months. GM has finally called me and I am waiting on a solution.

I want 500 signatures for GM Chevy to do a recall

I am asking that GM Chevrolet do a recall on there Cobalt's because they have a power steering problem. The power steering randomly goes out and it unsafe. GM Chevrolet is refusing to do a recall even though over 200 Cobalt owners have reported having the same problem with their power steering. CONTACT JUDI GASTON AT WIS TV TO VOICE YOUR COMPLAINT [email protected] OR Call her at 803-758-1268.

GM Chevrolet needs to take responsibility for this manufacturing problem before someone seriously gets hurt (3 deaths already) and having to replace the entire steering column which is very costly should not be paid by the consumer but by the manufacture. There needs to be a recall, so please sign this petition if you agree.

Go to this website to sign please!!!

    THANK YOU!!!

2006 Chevy Cobalt. My power steering goes out.

It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.

Chevy Cobalt turn signal issues

There is a plastic piece inside the steering column that will automatically turn the turn signals off when the steering wheel is turned back to 'straight ahead'. This plastic piece can break, and if it does, they can only be turned off manually, as you are doing. I have not worked on anything as new as your cobalt to repair this, but on older cars it involves removing the steering wheel and turn signal assembly. You must also deal with the air bag. Don't attempt this repair unless you have a manual to follow to disarm the air bag and properly remove the steering wheel and other components.

Power Stearing

The same thing happed to my 06 cobalt. The thing is that the DUMB A** at GM made the whole power steering electrical. Your going to have to change the the little computer that is located right under the steering wheel. if you go to the dealership they are going to RIP YOU OFF. What i did was i got the part at a GM junk yard, all it cost me was $200. your going to have to take the whole steering wheel of and change it. I hope i helped. GM needs to do a recall b4 someone God forbid, dies form this in an accident.
I still do like my cobalt thought lol

My 2006 Chevy Cobalt steering wheel has locked and i dont know how to unlock it. I can't even turn the key when i put it in the ignition

sounds like your steering column lock is binding you need to slightly turn the steering one way or the other while turning the key at the same time. this happens if the steering wheel is turned after removing the key. or when parked against a curb.
