Have not replaced the battery in the key. I am told the battery in the key charges while driving and should not be replaced. Please advise. I am stuck.

Hi Geno,
You may have two different problems.
The key does indeed have a rechargeable battery and you do not replace the batteries in BMW keys. Once the key starts failing, you probably need a new key. If you have another key, you can find instructions online to reprogram the key that is causing problems with the other good key. Try that first to see if the programming just glitched off. I have seen this happen. I also have had keys just go bad.

The random flashing lights and quiet alarm are most likely due to a CAR battery that has a dead cell. I have had a number of BMWs on my car lot that will start and ACT like the battery is OK, but the hazard lights will randomly go on. Once the alternator charges the battery further, the lights go off as the battery is charged.

I agree with Patrick D....make 100% sure the charging system and battery are operating within the manufacturer specs. Just because it starts and seems OK, does not mean it is. Hope this helps, good luck.

Have 2010 Silverado. battery goes dead randomly. had batt. alt and voltage regulator checked and all is good.

With a multimeter, check for parasitic loss. YOu can google how to do that and it will reveal any power losses when the vehicle is at rest.
Simply a guess here, but I see the year of your vehicle and that might coincide with the failure of any alarm system backup battery, often fitted inside any alarm siren. If you do indeed have such a thing fitted to your vehicle, and if it hasn't been changed in a few years, then try disconnecting it. What often happens is the backup battery in the siren reaches the end of it's life and can no longer store electricity. It begins to draw more current from the starting battery to top itself off, but it can't top itself off any longer, so it continues until the vehicle's starter battery is drained.

Anyway, that's just a guess. Do a parasitic drain test. You should be looking at no more than 0.03 amps. If much higher than this, then pull any alarm sirens off, then recheck. Then pull the stereo fuse and recheck. Keep pulling fuses until you find the one which brings the voltage down to that figure, then you've found your culprit.

Battery died, charged it when hokked up it tripped the alarm.

way round it maybe to just disconect it, or look for the fault probably a loose wire, or a bare wire rubbing of the metal work setting it of, best to fit a new 1

Car Alarm keeps going off on 528i (1999)

I had a similar problem, 2003 530i, but only while the alarm was active. The culprit was a bad hood switch that was making intermitent connection.

My problem is i just recently bought this 1990 Lexus LS400 and everything works fine but randomly the alarm will start going off when i open the truck or doors then i put the key in the ignition and it...

My 1991 Lexus LS 400 does something similar. When the alarm goes off I use the key to unlock the passenger side front door and it turns the alarm off. Go figure, I know it sounds funny but it solves the problem for me.
