its just time for a tune up
what your getting at low RPMs is just a misfire. i would bet to say that you engine light is also on.
so plugs and clean your throttle body and if you haven yet replace your fuel filter.

As a response to solution #1 these cars do have an overdrive while in D-4, mine was shifting in and out at 70 mph until it finally quit and the rpm is now 3100 at 70 mph insted of 2700. The car still shifts 4 full times just not the fifth-OD. I still can't find out what fixes this problem either.

It seems as though your electronic "lock up" on the torque converter is not actuating. TCC lockup/Torque Converter Clutch lockup.

This problem could be one of several it is hard to pin point the car needs to be hoisted up and checked out further for torque converter which is between the motor and transmission or it could be a internal transmission valve this is why it needs to be hoisted up preferably at a transmission specialist.

Is a check engine light on? Have you had the systems control module scanned for fault codes, do that.

you might not have a problem . TCC solenoid.torque converter clutch.it is Inside the torque converter there is a clutch to stop the slip about 500rpm . you can check it by like 90kmh steady then with other foot just touch the brake pedal no braking just a little bit you will feel release and push again this is the tcc applied and it,s normal behavior

Increased rpm in same gear at same speed. Honda CR V 2003 5 speed manual. At 70mph rpm used to e 2500-3000. Now it's 3000-3500. Has about 150,000 miles. One owner.

Clutch/pressure plate are most likely worn and slipping.

sounds like the vac control valve or the kick start cable is fitted right ,but then you did have the rolls royce of auto boxes in as original ,a c4 which should be about 3000rpm for 70mph ,depending on the final drive ratio fitted to your car

How many gears does your car have? One of my cars has to do a little over 3000rpm to maintain 70-75 in 5th gear. My other car has to do about 3000rpm to maintain 65-70 in 5th gear.

It all depends on the number of gears your car has and the gearing ratio. The second car I have is geared more optimally for city driving and gets better fuel economy going slower than fast highway speeds.

Having driven several rental cars too I would say anywhere between 2500 to 3000 is reasonable for the average car. If you are driving a vehicle like say a porsche, bmw or audi they may have more gears and may be at a lower rpm at 70mph than your car.

is it shifting into overdrive?, auto or standard trans, at 60mph most vehicles with overdrive are at about 1800 to 2200 rpms...

has someone lowered your final drive axle gear ratio...?

Transmission will not shift into overdrive

Most likely overdrive gear stripped.. My 01 Tek did this at 123K miles...

70MPH was equalling 3K rpm.. Dealer said was operating properly..
Transmission shop test-drove and diagnosed it easily.. Part is a splined tube with a cup on the other end.. Old part looked like someone had taken a lathe to it.

Problem blamed on a not properly hardened supply part. Expensive repair.
