Idiling high, temperature guage not working. no check engine light on. no problems shifting, fan coming off & on, blowing hot & cold air. can drive it, but it wont start up right away &

Check the cable to the temp sender unit is attached if so check the unit is working with a ohms meter. check the throttle cable is not binding ,the throttle leaver stop at the throttle body housing should be fully closed .

Hard starting cold

Is cranking speed slow? Do a voltage drop test on battery cables.and a high output amp meter to test starter draw. normal ampere draw should be 250-350 amps cold and 300-375 amps hot as engine turns these readings should drop to 200-250 amps if not bad starter.

1991 pontiac sunbird le 2.0 .gave full tune up.plugs-wires.cap-rotor-oxygen sensor-throttle position sensor.starts fine when cold.wont start when hot,untail it cools down.

The problem is with the starter assembly. Replace the starter, and the problem will be over.

Hot cold meter problems

One thing you are not driving far enough to warm the engine up. As far as running it ten minutes when cold you are not making the motor warm up as well It has to work to warm up.. They say it is a waste of money to run your car more than two or three minutes as newer cars are made to get in and drive right away when cold. I am wondering if your thermostat is working properly as well.

Bmw 318i e46 1999 poor engine response cold better hot but low power on take off

check gig flexi hose between air mass meter and engine, it has a tendency to split, also try disconnecting air mass meter plug, if it runs better without it mass meter may be faulty, try replacing it with a known good one

MY HOT AND COLD METER KEEPS RISING AND FALLING

If the fans are electric, then replace the fan control module.
If the fan is belt driven, replace the fan clutch.

There is a chance that the thermostat is failing, but if the temperature fluctyation occurs during driving, as opposed to stopped and idling, then it's probably the fans.
