Why does engine shut off while driving after about 10 min then won't crank?

Wait an hour then cranks but will do it again

Check for spark at plugs when it will not run. Spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body and see if it runs for a few seconds on that. Post results.

Cranks, but won't start? Catalytic converter. exhaust can't escape. No air out, no air in. Next time, put your hand over the carb/ throttle. Little or no suction. Dump the cat. Being an 89, could be other things. Old engine.

Does it have a distributer ? or DIS ignition system ? Sounds like bad ignition module .

    Check fuel pressure , go to you tube an check videos on fuel pressure testing

    Did you have a scan tool hooked up to check engine sensor data ? specifically the coolant temp. sensor

    Does the check engine light work , I mean when you turn the key on ( not to start just on ) explain won't crank ,when it dies does the engine turn over but doesn't start ? Are the injectors squirting fuel after it dies . You do have Two TBI injectors . Computer, engine computer ! Injector drivers inside computer !

1998 chevy s10 driving along and engine shut down.after sitting 10 min.it started but was rough.went 100.ft and it shut off again.sat for a while.it started and ran a couple miles like nothing was ever...
if it shuts off while driving and will not start back up for at least 10 minutes, then it may be the crank sensor doing this. is check engine light on! if so get it scanned to find problem code. if no scanner, auto-zone will scan for free. if light is on. CPS symtoms are: car dies and won't re-start till it cools down, or won't start at all. good-day ! crank sensor timing will be out of sync. it controls timing and sends info to pcm.

Starts when the engine is cold,after 5 to 10 minutes it shut off,i crank over and over.wont work,so i need to wait for couple hours to start again,but its not very long.i dont know what to do please help?
It might be an issue with either the crank sensor that acts like a heat sink when hot and causes a change in internal resistance, causing it to not give proper feedback to the engine computer. Check to see if your tachometer needle is moving when cranking-if not change the crank sensor. If it sounds like it wants to start but won't, it is a fuel issue-either leaking injector O-rings or a fuel pump that has too low pressure as it heats up can be checked at the fuel rail with a pressure tester.

is the security light on? Try ,crank it ,leave the ign. on for 1 min. Crank again,leave ign. on for 1 min.
should reset ,may have to do that several times.

if it shuts off after running for a while and will not restart for about 10 min,a bad crank sensor will cause this. abad crank sensor will make car shut off and not restart for about 10 min. put a scanner on to make sure. a check engine light does not allways come on. if you do not have a scanner, any auto parts store will scan it for free.

Car shuts off while driving
if car shuts off while driving it could be a bad crank sensor. a bad crank sensor will shut car off while driving, then it will not start for about 10 minutes, when it starts it runs fine until it goofs up again. the popping could be the sensor for it controls timing along with the cam sensor.
